Public speaking is a very important tool in the real estate world.  There are classes that teach you the most effective ways to grab your audience and pull them in.  Imagine how powerful it would be to hold a buyer seminar with fine tuned public speaking techniques. 

I was looking at some properties in Church Hill, Richmond the other day.  As I drove past St. John's Church, I was thinking about the famous speech that Patrick Henry gave there.  His speech is accredited with tipping the balance of the Virginia House of Burgesses to join with the separation movement from England, which eventually became the Revolutionary War.  This is the last and most famous part of his address to the House.

Nate, I feel as you do that public speaking is a "feather in your hat" so to speak for Realtors especially when giving seminars. We have a group that our Corbett Team has actively participated in giving speeches. It is Saturday Brunch Bunch Club of TOASTMASTERS. This is an international group and you most like have a chapter in your area. My husband has been past President and past District Governor. He is working for his DTM (Distinquished Toastmaster)

I've always been thankful for my own membership in our local Toastmasters Towne Club 443 in Canton Ohio. I'm positive I would have never be able to present the state required Consumer Guide to Agency Relationships while two or three people are staring in my eye without the speaking strength I gained by being a member. Fortunately I was also able to serve as the club president as well as other offices too.

Aloha Nate! And Aloha also to Kathleen and Jim. I have been a Toastmaster for several years now, and an Area Governor for the last two years. Public speaking can become addictive, so I  encourage everyone to try it. Getting involved in Toastmasters is a great way to get going.

Hi Nate - Great commentary.  You are absolutely correct.  Having the ability to speak in public is a great asset for Realtors.  Most in the field have personalities that lend them nicely to that role; but some are a bit hesitant.  All it takes is gaining the confidence in yourself, being capable of good preparation, and gaining practice in your delivery.
