Can a good blog be boring?

By
Mortgage and Lending with Social Media - Infinity Home Mortgage Company, Inc

not funny

Maybe your blog is not a funny story….  Maybe it’s not short enough, in which case would lead to being read less, less views. It might not get as many comments as others…     but does it at least educate the general public?  Maybe educate the real estate community?  Sharing your voice, which in turn could share your wealth of knowledge and reach out to othes….Possibly get potential clients. Ines Hegedus-Garcia mentions your voice in this post. Whose voice is it anyway?

Don’t feel down if you don’t have many comments on a blog that you might think is very good….educational…. and that you think it is featured material. Keep that chin up and keep writing. I am speaking from experience. I use to get upset or angry at times when I wrote a very good blog, sometimes an excellent blog. But it wasn’t funny, wouldn’t get featured….. but it was loaded with good information. But one thing that I am trying to do is to educate the consumer and the real estate industry, hoping that it circulates around the internet.

be happy

So, keep in perspective what you are truly here for. Do you want to be popular? Sure, most of us do, it’s human nature. But what is truly your ultimate goal within the ‘Rain’? Business? Pleasure, aka fun?  Sure, you can achieve both. Again, keep focused and not worked up about certain issues or the politics of a certain community. Gee, this is just part of life and takes place in many areas of our lives.  Negative energy can be contagious and wear you down.

Be HAPPY, but productive. Have FUN, but make money. And just enjoy writing your blogs, not allowing it to be a job.

Steve..... I totally agree....  this seems to be the norm. Not always.... but in most cases.

Karen..... Thanks..  ;o)...   so, Karen, what is my voice then?  I think I actually have 3 different voices. One might stand out than another.... but thanks for your comments....and for stopping by.

Carole P..... thanks for your feedback & input....  glad that you don't find it as a chore. I will be honest and say that I did...after about 2 months. I had some very good success in the beginning.... then I was pressing myself for topics to write about. Now I just keep an open-mind and enjoy it.

David....   maybe you should have written this for me... did I put you to sleep already?  ;o)

you nailed it on the head, with both comments.  In regards to your last comment.... those that do BOTH are GREAT Blogs  Not to point people out, but those that are generally really...good...define good... popular?  seem to be more funny than educating. Now, sharing experiences can also be funny and attract many comments.

What about those blogs that are filled with facts, that are educating with opinion?  Those that could benefit our industry...even when well written. Those are the ones that seem to lack comments. But as some of us have stated, exposure is what many of us strive for.

Thanks for the link love Jeff - your point is great! Focus on your goal, not the feature, not even who reads it.  We do take for granted that there are a lot of readers that don't comment, doesn't mean your post is bad, some don't like to comment.

Excellent point... blogging is not a popularity contest, its business promotion, consumer education, informative, thought-provoking, a stress reliever.... it is so much more than popularity. Thanks.

What, there aren't more comments here?  j/k.

Jeff...As many people who read my posts can attest, I do not get very many comments on most of mine for whatever reason, but I just keep posting.

I have been told before that I do not leave room to dispute the points I make or leave much for discussion, so maybe that is it.  I have been trying to blog better and generate more discussion as I like conversing with people and helping them understand what I do and who I am.

So for those reading this, even if you get 0 comments, if it tells something about who you are or what you do, keep posting.

Jeff- This is an excellent post and a really good reminder.  It's easy to get caught up in "all of that" and forget why we started doing this in the first place.

Ines.....  Yes... some don't like to comment....  but what I don't get is if you rate a post a 5...  and think it's really good, why not comment at least. Thanks for the polite comments.

Matthew....  are you happy now?  That's good...  if you are happy, I am happy... ;o)

Gary..... Thanks for the compliment. Sure, blogging should not be a popularity contest....  but it seems to be at times in this community.  thanks for stopping by.

Teri..... yes, I don't mind long or short posts.... it if looks good, but it's long, I'll still read it. Just wondering why so many don't do the same.  I have noticed more shorter ones being featured at times.

Robert...... the main reason why you don't get many is because they are niot full of juice...  semi boring,.,...  but that you share some really good ideas...that you are creative... but many seem to want to read gossip or funny blogs.

Overall.... I agree....  writing a blog to get those to discuss more......that is important for several reasons.... it also helps get it ranked higher on the searches.  thanks for the comments...

Thesa.....  sure, who doesn't enjoy reading comments on their posts.  thanks for the compliment...

Christina....  thanks for those kind words.....   and yes, it's very easy to get caught up on much of the high school stuff that takes place.  Again, there I go, speaking my mind...  ;o) Do you speak your mind?

Jeff,

Great post...we all need to be reminded at times not to take life (or blogging) too seriously.  It should be an outlet for learning, educating and provide a voice for those that might not have had an outlet to voice their views, knowledge, etc. in the past.

I also do not get a lot of comments on my blog.  That doesn't bother me in the least.  I didn't start my blog to see how many comments I could get.  And I know that my content is not interesting to everyone, but if it's being read by some, and they are learning something from it, then I'm succeeding.

Your post is a great reminder to just be positive and use the law of attraction in our daily lives...thinking positively brings positivity to you.

Jeff, one thing is for sure..my post are not very educational! I tend to post according to my mood which fortunately is usually high. But I write about news, history and amusement.  I do not get the comments that some of the super bloggers get but heh I'm having fun.

Sally..... yes, who cares if it's wacky. You are being you and sharing that side of you with us. Showing us your personality and being genuine/sincere about it. It's a good way to get to know people better because of this. And thank you for the compliment.

Teresa B. ..... I always need reminders..... lol  And I keep reading plenty with the 'Rain'. So many people sharing so many thoughts, ideas, and lessons learned.

Overall... thanks for those comments and for the kind compliments.

Danny...... yes, mood can be shown in many posts. Especially the rants. And I have enjoyed some of your history blogs.... very interesting in deed.

Theresa C. .....  glad that this could help some. I need to stay focused at times. Yes, we all want to be recognized.....  but what is our true purpose on here?  Your goals?  Thanks for stopping by.

Jeff... it is no secret that there are a lot of blogs getting featured that aren't always the best content but get some results via the moderator's own opinions.   Whether trying to encourage a new person or recognize someone who is very active - feature doesn't always mean BEST.  I read don't read a lot of non-featured posts... and I start some featured ones and get 3 lines in before I pass and move on.

Since I seriously doubt that consumers ever see that shiny star, who cares so long as you are getting hits from your target market

now... if you're not getting features AND you're not getting hits... then you're boring

Cyndee Haydon has some good insight into this as well

David...... I know how you feel about this. I believe in trying to encourage, but to what point... at what cost?  Hey, I am not looking for perfection, but at least some type of consistency.

Neal.....  thanks for that polite compliment. Nope, you can never please everyone. All I look for is those that preach, to practice it... and consistency.  Thanks for stopping by.

Jeff, I agree with David and feel that if I'm persistent no matter the results, it will pay off in the long run.  Sometimes it's hard to come up with the material for the day, but it forces me to think about what I should write all day long.  I read an article here or there and think, is there value in this for someone else.  Will eyes want to see this information.  What else could be written about this topic?  It's my goal to provide value, not just write.  Thanks for posting and possing this question!

David...  you hit the nail on the head. It's your goal to provide value. So many seem to write for the points. Good for them, more for me when I blog for value and for points.

Thanks for the compliments.

Kaye....  so very true. Something that I need to start working on since I now have 4 blog sites, including AR. One of them, I was invited by someone to blog on their site....  long story, but a great story. Thanks for the polite compliment.
