Village Green sign

The quote in the shape of a cross on the sign on the Worthington Green is from George MacLeod (I had to Google him):

"I simply argue that the cross be raised again at the centre of the marketplace as well as on the steeple of the church."

The Village Green in Worthington remains a crossroad of Central Ohio with the intersection of State Route 161 (Dublin Granville Road)  and State Route 23 (High Street) dividing the Village Green. Yearly Central Ohio Christians of many faiths meet at noon on Good Friday at this crossroads.

Details of the 2009 Worthington Community Good Friday Service according to a brochure from the Worthington United Methodist Church:

"Good Friday, April 10:

Community Worship Service, at 12:00 Noon - This service begins at
Worthington Presbyterian Church, traveling to seven worship stations
around the Village Green, experiencing the seven last words of Christ.
The last station is in the cemetery at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Worthington UMC will host one of the stations."

The church shown is the Worthington Presbyterian Church.

The church looks exactly like the one I attended as a child...wonder how long that sign will stay up since there is sooo much noise about even nativity scenes at city hall....Have a happy easter and very prosperous spring !

Worthington has 8 signs on the green and has for years. Often they are for things at the local churches.  I am trying to remember what is up now, I know the St. Michael's fish fry was up until recently.  There is one for the Easter Services at a northside Columbus Lutheran Church (just south of Wo.)  right now and this one.... There is a sign up for an event coming up at the synagogue in the Worthington area now that I think about it. I wonder about non religious folks being offended by the signs, or probably more anti religious folks than non religious folks.  Not sure if the Indian Temple in the Linworth area has ever had anything on the signs.  I believe there is still a Buddhist monastery in Worthington too... so Worthington and Columbus in general is very diverse.

Someplace on Worthington.org there is info about the Scioto Company (the company that developed Worthington in 1803, that brought the settlers from MA and CT.)  The Scioto  Company planned Worthington  as an Episcopalian community or would that have been an Anglican community  back then??  Or I suppose it was The Church of England at that point... or to them "The Church."    The history of Worthington  tells about as Worthington grew that changed... it got more diverse.  Presbyterean's, Methodists... I read it and had planned on leaving a link to it here  but could not find it....

I am not sure whether Worthington, a community that is SO in touch with it's roots would ever fall prey to political correctness to the point that the churches that serve the community could be banned from providing info in the public square. Or having services there.

Happy Easter Sally.

P.S. Gosh I went off there... it could be a post.... I wish the comment was not so big and so blue.
