There is a very interesting article about a new way burglars are using to pick locks.  It's on the web at http://money.aol.com/bankrate/realestate/canvas3/_a/how-to-protect-your-home-against-lock/20070509133809990002

It points out that our conventional cylinder locks are no longer much of a problem for even teenagers to pick.  They need 100 bucks to buy several plastic picks.  The one that fist in the specific lock is the one they stick in it.  Then they strike it with a rubber mallet and whammo.  They are inside your house.  No fuss, no muss, no noise, no attention drawing time spent on the front porch tinkering around.

Realtors might want to alert your clients and sphere members by putting this information in your next newsletter.

We all need to upgrade our home locks.

We had a demonstration a while back along the same lines with autos. The police showed us how fast someone could get into your car and drive off. It was less than 45 seconds....scary.

If people REALLY knew how easy it is to defeat a lock, they would be shocked. A private investigator friend of mine showed me how to pick just about any lock out there in less than 30 seconds. It stunned me. There are locks out there that are apparently very close to being pick proof, but you won't find them at the Home Depot! Or on about 99% of American homes either.
