"Fire" is a song written by Bruce Springsteen and originally intended for use by Elvis Presley. It was first recorded by Robert Gordon in 1978, who received some modest album-oriented rock radio airplay with it. It was then recorded and released by The Pointer Sisters later in 1978, who gained a major hit from it, reaching number two in early 1979 on the U.S. pop chart. Although he performed the song live from his 1978 tour onwards, Springsteen himself did not release his own recording of the song until his 1986 Live/1975-85 album, which contains his (heavily edited, to eliminate on-stage hijinks) December 16, 1978 performance. Enjoy this live version of "Fire" Here's the more famous version by the Pointer Sisters

Jim,

I enjoyed your post. I saw the Pointer Sisters live at the National Assoc of Broadcasters Convention in Vegas in 1982. They were great. I have never seen the boss live.

Sash - glad you enjoyed it...thanks! Gary - you know it! Shelton - hope your son enjoyed it too. Steve - it wasn't as good as one of your terrific posts, but glad you enjoyed it. If you ever get a chance to see him live...do it. You won't be sorry.

Mr Jim,

Since you are into music, perhaps you would like to invest in the career of my cousin Wheatloaf (above). He is planning to put out his first vinyl recording as soon as he gets financial backing. By the way, I like your post better than the bosses. His posts are dumb.

Jim,

Nutsy gave me such a hardtime about this blog post being better than any of mine that I did my own Springsteen post. Check it out. I want to see if you know the answer. It is over at my blog. By the way, stay away from that Wheatloaf. I know, I know, seems like a sure thing but he is all talk and no action.
