Store front in St. Elmo, Colorado

St. Elmo, Colorado.

This little tiny town may be small but it is big on character!  This is the storefront of one of the few buildings in St. Elmo and if you go there, probably the small general store will be the only business that is "open for business", but you'll probably still find something in the store that you just can't live without!

To get there, you will need to drive about 8 miles south of Buena Vista and then turn west on Rd. 162.  Then it's a steady climb and a beautifully scenic drive until you reach St. Elmo.  That is usually the end of the road.  To continue from there, you will need a high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle and even then only during a few months in the summer time.

This big little town is well worth the time so, go take a look.

But be careful - rumor has it that St. Elmo is a ghost town!

Mike .. thanks for this post about St. Elmo, CO ~ and fun photo image.

I have driven on highway 162 and have been to Buena Vista, CO, so perhaps have seen St. Elmo. Sounds interesting and we'll check it out if that situations comes up in our travels.

Hi Harrison and thanks for stopping by.  That is a beautiful drive up that way especially in mid to late September.

Is that the actual front of the building or did they add a front like we see on movie sets?

Great shot of a storefront with LOTS of character! I've seen the signs to St Elmo out of Buena Vista, but have never taken the time to visit - will have to do that soon!

Hi Caren, this little town is very rustic and can really take you back in time to those "good old days".

Andrea, thanks.  Come on out - I know a good Realtor who would love to help you with the purchase of that store!  :-)

Lisa, I think that is the original - it just didn't look like a fake movie front.

Hey Laura, I understand how your husband feels - I dreamed of living here for a long time before we made it happen.  Goals lead to reality.

Debi, don't miss it next time.  I've been in September and the drive is very pretty.  If you like to camp, there are campsites up near the town, too.
