I just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy Easter! Recently I ran across an article on how to make unusual easter eggs by using men's old, colorful silk ties. Goodwill and other thrift shops are a wonderful resource to finding old ties rather than raiding your husband's collection - although, there are a few I would love to see find a new life elsewhere. With the help of vinegar and cheese cloth, you can produce beautiful, unique eggs that reflect the design of the original silk ties.
Hi Jim and Trish - thank you for your comments. The hardest part of creating these lovely eggs is deciding whether you should make deviled eggs out of them. I didn't have the heart to break them, so I enjoyed their beauty until it was time to throw them away....along with those old ties. Have a wonderful Easter.
Hi Emelyn ~ Those eggs are lovely - what fun. And I have to agree - the tie selection at Goodwill can be amazing. My colleague searches the tie bin regularly and scores great ties.

oh those are gorgeous...........I just watched Martha Stewart doing them today with Lace!
Hi Liz and Liz - I bet the lace eggs are just lovely and although I didn't see the show, I imagine Martha wrapped them in lace (with metal ties) and then dunked them in pretty dyes? Am I right? I saw Martha also do the tie dyed eggs (where you have to boil them for about 20 minutes) on a show several weeks after I had given it a try.....isn't it fun to try different things?
Emelyn - Beautiful pictures of the eggs I love them. The setting is also nice :)
Wow, awesome! And a great use for those dust collectors in my closet!!! Thanks, Emelyn...
Fantastic, Emelyn! What a great and creative idea!
Did you get my reponses to your recent email?

I used to have trouble with baking cookies and not wanting to eat them because they were so pretty... I stopped baking. Those are beautiful. How creative. I voted against a tie last night that would make a great Easter egg....
That is just amazing! thanks for sharing!
your friend in Charlottesville Virginia!
Hi Libby and Tony - if you google tie-dyed easter eggs I bet there are several "recipes" The key is to get colorful and outrageous silk (need to be silk) ties that you can cut apart. You wrap the egg with the outside of the fabric face down against the egg. You use a metal tie (like from a loaf of bread) to secure it tightly and then wrap cheesecloth around it and secure again. These eggs are then put in boiling water with vinegar and cooked approx. 20 minutes. I writing this from memory so I do suggest you get better directions. It isn't hard, its fun and the results are lovely....you can get about 2 eggs per tie. Enjoy.
Charles - thank you for your comments.
