Picture of Rail Bridge at dusk
If you have ever visited the Poughkeepsie area you would have noticed the railroad bridge across the Hudson River, for years I wondered if there would be a use for it or would it be torn down. I am happy to say this bridge will be made into the highest and longest pedestrian walkway in the world, and will be a place for many to really enjoy this majestic river.
At present the rail bridge is being converted into a beautiful walkway with funds provided through grants and donation. Click here to see the progress.
This year is the New York State Hudson Fulton Champlain Quadricentennial celebration and the grand opening of the Walkway at the beginning of October will be a part of the celebration.
Here is how you can assist:
- Donations
- Volunteering.
Dr. Alan Chartock of WAMC recently interviewed Fred Schaeffer, Ned Sullivan and Jeane Fleming about the walkway, the Hudson River and the Quadricentennial celebration, listen here.
