How Do We Define an "Eco Friendly" Home?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Real Estate DRE#01410072

As Real Estate lingo goes this could be the next one we will need to define...

We get this great listing in Del Sur,  the community I live in out here in San Diego that consider themselves "Eco Friendly!"

My listing has the actual "energy package" on it.

What that means is that even though all the other 500 homes in the area have dual paned windows, "eco friendly" lighting inside and out, additional attic insulation, tankless hot water heaters,  energy efficient appliances and all the rest, this home has solar panels on the roof!

So what do solar panels get the owner of this home?

...Lower  or non existent energy bills to run the electricity for this home with the advantage of selling back excess energy to the local energy company seem like the plan and most do say they are saving bundles of money on their bills...

Just think of what we coud do for our clients many of whom are not interested in selling during the present Real Estate adjustment and live in older homes who face staggering energy bills?

Think about telling your future clients to consider spending money on things that they can enjoy over the next few years before they decide it is finally time to sell their homes.

Items  like dual paned windows, additional insulation in their attics, replacing present light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs are 3 things that can really make the difference especially for our Senior clients. Just changing out the light bulbs will positively shock our clients when they see their energy bills.Consider retrofitting their plumbing with water saving faucet heads especially in our Southern California market where most Buyers ask to see the Sellers energy bills before they complete

Just think "Light Bulbs" and visit your local Home Depot store. Most now have a dispaly in their lighting department to explain the "look of eco lighting" you would prefer. If you can't find display just email me for the link. It does make a difference but for those of us who just want to have a light look LIKE a "regular" light bulb I have news for you>>>that look does now exist in an energy efficient bulb! Home Depot has it!!!

Let's do our part wherever we live! And lets put our heads together to figure out HOW to define an "eco friendly " home!
