Are you tempted by a Netbook?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coastal Properties Group International - Christie's International

Asus netbookI hadn't let myself be enticed by a small, handy netbook ... until I saw one of my clients with his Asus netbook.

3.2 pounds, with wireless and bluetooth connections.

9-1/2 hour battery life!

small enough for the tray on a plane.

1.66GHz processor, 10" display, workable keyboard.160 GB internal hard drive.

It will easily fit on a bar - a coffee bar, a cocktail bar, your own kitchen bar.

It will fit in your purse or briefcase with room to space.

iPhone like touchpad to zoom in and out.

It's $389 from amazon.

I have the Dell Mini, very handy and light weight. I use it more than I thought I would.

Sharon - That is very cool...  I, too, am a computer addict... Have a Dell XPS M1330, great weight for on the lap with morning coffee and bagel :)

That's pretty light Sharon. Incredibly long battery life for a whole work day. I wonder if the screen is bright enough under battery power.

Sharon, I was computer shopping last week since my 3 year old gateway tablet finally crashed and burned. The darn screen popped off!! I was checking out the 10 inch acer. It looks cute but I just decided that my big ole fat fingers would ruin that thing in no time flat. So I bought a HP Pavilion instead. I have a new  Dell desktop too.

I also have an iPhone so figured I already have internet access and email capabilities so don't really need a small internet device. They are cute though. My mom just bought one.

I think for anyone who travels alot these computers are great.  My client brought one on her recent visit to New Hampshire.. It was easy to travel with and fit nicely into a small bag.  I don't think the keyboard would work that way for a lap top to be used on a daily basis, however.

Sharon - I have been tempted by the netbook. I really like that it has 91/2 hours of battery life.

Thanks all for your comments. The battery life was a biggie for me. I'm thinking that I'll do better at blogging with this because I can have it with me all the time - easier to take out while I'm having coffee, etc. Time will tell.

Hi Sharon ~ One of the first things that I thought of as I read about this was that I could bring it to bed - blogging in bed - that's the ticket!

Hi Sharon, That is the size of my first notebok before they became so popular and got way bigger. The differnce was the hard drive was 20 Mb. Can you believe that !  I wish I had kept it because it would be a collectors item today. Fools will collect anything and then in 50 years when they make a killing on it, who's the fool? LOL

HAPPY EASTER!

Sharon, they are really slow and clunky, at least when compared to the MacBook Aiir, which is pricier but just elegant and fast.

Read someplace that by end of year phone companies will be offering something like this for about $100 with wireless service.

Sharon, just stopping by to say Happy Easter but I notice this post of yours. Just yesterday I saw on Yahoo, that ATT is launching this netbook in Atlanta and Philly for $50 with the purchase of the aircard. It is in Radio Shack in my market now for $79. Have a great day.

Frank - there are so many companies that realize they can "give away" the equipment if they get the servicing!

Liz - better you than me.

William - even comic books bring lots of money! When I think back on floppies that were really flobby, and computers where you typed a DOS command and then went to pour a cup of cofee ...

Pat - I don't think they'll ever replace the more powerful notebooks, but I see lots of places where they'd do just fine instead of carrying the heavier, larger one.

Bob and Carolin - Frank just addressed that.

I used to own a few acers eee pc but I find it is too small to type. Also the speed is intolerable. But it is really convenient.

Huiting - thanks for your comment. As I said, it won't replace a notebook, but there are times it can supplement it well.
