The Power of Short Notes

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Home Team

I’ve attended the Howard Brinton Conferences for a number of years and have listened to his Star Power Tape Series for even longer.  One of the ideas that has stuck with me since I heard it …. Star Bob Wolff’s routine of writing notes every day to not only clients, but to average people he came in contact with.  He has some amazing stores of how a simple note “touched” someone enough to create future business for him...a waitress, a cab driver, the gas attendant.  I’ve tried to keep up the routine of writing short notes and encourage my team to do the same.  In the email age, people are really surprised and pleased to receive a personal hand written note.

Hmmm who can I write to tomorrow?  I think I'll send a  note to the farmer who threw in a few extra eggplants in my bag at his stand yesterday.  How about you?

I remember listening to Howard Brinton on Main Street; he is a powerful speaker.

I also try to get everyones business card that I come in contact with and then send an e-mail to them every now and then. Granted MOST never reply but I'm probably remembered.

I try to either e-mail or write to everyone I meet as well. I always find it interesting to see who acknowledges receiving it and which e-mails are rejected because business cards are not up to date.

Writing a note is the best way to keep in touch with past clients and people you have met over the years. Who knows, that individual might just be your next buyer or seller.

I keep a data base of agents that have contacted me over the years and send out periodic emails every six months in the form of a short newsletter filled with tips.

I am just like Dena, I send emails out every so often.  I would love to send out small note cards every day but I am not happy with my handwriting, if that makes sense?

The hand written note has a couple of advantages over email. First, it's the personal touch. Second, it's a pleasant surprise in the daily mail instead of getting buried in the inbox. Third, recipients are more likely to hang onto it -- deleting an email is quick, throwing away something personal might take a little longer.
