Put That Rake Down

Put that rake down! It is so tempting to rake as the sun gets warmer and the temperature increases, but it is the best way to pull the grass out by it roots.  If you feel you must do something use the bamboo rake and not the metal rake and use a light stroke.  You can get rid of the sand on your curb with a broom.  A good hard rain will remove the sand and salt best.

If your arms are staining to be over-worked, clean out the garage.  Over the winter our garages take on a strange look.  Things get piled where they should not, sand starts piling on the floor, and it is time to take out the lawn furniture and wash it down. In the blink of an eye we put the Christmas decoration away and bring out the lawn ornaments.

It is a good time to remove leaves from our beds, prune back any plants that we let stand over the winter, and plant new trees and bushes.  If you can dig into the ground, it is find to plant trees and bushes.  Don't get crazy and plant flowers.  You must restrain from that until mid-May in the Twin Cities.  If your flower boxes really need something go ahead and plant pansies. Those shy plants are really hardy.

There is much you can do in the yard, just don't use that rake.
