Morning Traffic in Red Lodge

By
Education & Training

I was just having my morning coffee and checking out the following post by Robert Swertz

Speechless Sunday - Happy Easter from Las Vegas Nevada

then suddenly I looked through my window and was able to capture the following moment.

Moose in the Street (Red Lodge, MT)

Did you know that there is not a single traffic light in Red Lodge, Montana nor in the entire county of Carbon?

This was the traffic on the street as seen from outside my window this morning.  It's good to be here!!

Gary,

It doesn't look like this guy's about to move either. That's funny.

Wow...what a great place to live! We often think of getting away and going somewhere with this kind of view. Needless to say we don't have moose in Southern California

Now if that was in our area the truck driver would be stopping to ask if he needed a ride to DC so he could get in the HOV lanes :-)

Gary, that's fun!  Just don't get out of your car to shoo it off the road.  :-)

Question:  Is the plural of Moose, Meese or Mooses?  Ha!

Gary, that was the view out of my window last week too! Although we're up to 7 traffic lights in Jackson now... Enjoy your mud season...summer is coming!

First, for the records, my name is Gerry (pronounced the same as Jerry) and not Gary.

Terry,

It's like in the cartoons, the moose decided to run in a straight line, rather than escape the oncoming car by making a sharp turn to the left or the right.

Roy,

I am glad you got a chuckle out of this traffic.   Thanks for visiting.

Karen,

I used to live in Southern California and remember a different kind of traffic.  I did not see a moose in person till I moved to Montana and you do not want to be near one as they can make a charge for you especially if it is a mother with a calf.  Montana is sure a nice place to live or to simply get away.  I am grateful for living where I live and to be able to have this kind of view as well as many other unexpected and beautiful views thanks to Mother Nature.

Lori,

Happy Tuesday!   Thanks for commenting.

Amanda,

Life in Big Sky country can be as relaxing as you want it to be.

Cindy,

Very funny!  Thank you for the chuckle.

Mike,

You sure don't want to be face to face with a moose.  The plural of moose is moose.  Was that a trick question?

Tim,

Interesting that we shared a similar view.  I wonder if the Wyoming moose was also trying to escape from an oncoming car by running straight ahead.   l will enjoy whatever Mother Nature has in store for my area but expect a few more photos from Red Lodge when summer gets here.

Great pictures! We've seen a similar sight in our area but the light has never been good enough for photos. The beauty of living in Montana, you never know what you're going to see :)

I could not even imagine no traffic lights.  It is a great picture but my favorite part is your title!

Hi Gerry, Thanks for the pronunciation of your name, I wondered about that! I loved your traffic photo, we have moose here, and I am still waiting for the photo op!  Lucky you, you got one this morning!

P.S. I also had a post developing about no stop lights here -- it must be a "red" thing! Have a great day, Gerry.

Hi Gerry, What great timing you had to get your shot of that moose! Glad you looked up for a minute. Whenever I see that creature I think of that old show 'Northern Exposure'.

Mary,

You are welcome.  It must be a "red" thing.  :-)   I look forward to reading your future post about the no stop lights in Red Feather Lakes.

Cynthia,

It was much less than a minute for the looking up.  I would say I had about 2 seconds to realize what was going on outside and another 5 seconds to run and get my camera before the moose disappeared behing the hill.   Luckily, I managed to get these two photos of the moose on the loose.
