The National Zoo

Ever had the pleasure of visiting the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.? Here are some pictures I took during my last trip there. It's a great way to spend the day and it's free to all!

Here is one of the entertaining orangutans who walks on ropes above the crowds!

Recent arrivals: In March, 2 clouded leopards and a giant anteater were born. On January 10, a western lowland gorilla was born. (No pics of these, sorry) But, you can visit the zoo's website and see them on the live animal web cam! National Zoo

Please don't copy my photos! Thanks.

Linda, thanks for sharing you photos, my wife and I have been to that area several times and have yet to visit the zoo.  Will have to make it appoint while we are down there in Sept.  I even checked out the zoo website and saw the babies.  Really cute!

Bill - it is a must! Unless of course you are luck enough to live near another highly rated zoo - Bronx, San Diego.... The National Zoo is huge! Since it's free, there are gates all around and you can just park and walk in.

Debra, You are welcome. I hope you make it out here some day to see for yourself!

I love the National Zoo and have many fond memories as a child and during my own children's childhood.  Of course, it's changed a lot - I remember driving straight through the zoo on a two lane road, and that's been closed off for years.  I've never been to the Baltimore Zoo, and that's on my list of things to do.

Toula - The National Zoo is SO worth the trip! Thanks!

Margaret - Parking is a little bit of a pain these days. You can take the metro, but will have a little bit of a walk. The Baltimore Zoo doesn't come close to the National Zoo! The habitats are sad to look at and the cost is ridiculous. Thanks for the comments!
