You would never set out on a trip or a journey of any length without a map, plan or an itinerary of some kind, right? So, you can't change yourself from your very core without a map, plan or an itinerary either. This is not a theory, it is an irrevocable fact. To affect any kind of meaningful and healthy change in you, one must have a plan and refer to it often in order to stay on course. Your plan must have daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and five and ten year objectives or goals. They must also be written down. The planning is going to be hard work. Change is not going to be easy; it is not intended to be. Anything that is life altering comes with a price. You must pay that price, to yourself; after all you are the one who will reap the ultimate benefits.

Daily goals that work day in and day out are a must. They need to be written down and viewed daily.  Daily goals fall into the habit category more than any of the goals you will write down. Daily goals will seek to establish a routine that you can grow to reach your long term objectives.

"A journey begins with a destination in mind." This is a quote that is found in a postcard on my corkboard. Next to that corkboard is my infamous whiteboard with my daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and career goals. These are two examples of implementing tactics in your blog post.

I'm fortunate that my wise old grandmother taught me to do things persistently and consistently. So when she helped me start my first business when I was 11, she helped me create a five-year plan for where I wanted to be five years in the future. Then we broke it down into years, months, weeks, days, and sometimes even hours. Then I persistently and consistently worked those hours and days. Turns out that when I did that, the weeks, months, years, and five-year plan naturally fell into place, often insulating me from the doom and gloom that surrounded me, doom and gloom over which I had no control. My own life, though, was very much in control.

I have some old Texas A&M friends there in Tyler, William H. "Hank" and Hollie Baker. Haven't been in touch with them since I moved to California in 1993.

I am a past Project Manager. I live by the list and the goal. It's pretty easy to detect people who do not function this way, isn't it? They keep wondering why life keeps hitting them in the face.

My 20 something nephew sometimes asks me for career advise. I ask him what are his goals for this job? He then comes up with the solution on his own. Once you see the goal, figuring out how to handle somehting becomes clearer.

Thanks for the inspiring post Terry.
