The benefits of being a college town?  

They are varied, football, arts, football, smarts, football... why can't I think of the benefits of living in a college town when I need them? 

On a more superficial level... depending on your interests and gender there are...

College Hunks Collecting Junk  "College “Hunks” in Columbus, Ohio"

From the College Hunks Collecting Junk website:

"Last Spring we donated our time and junk removal trucks at the Columbus Zoo for the Channel 10TV food drive called “Operation Feed.” Over 100 volunteers worked tirelessly to collect and sort thousands of cans of food brought to the Zoo by the great people of Columbus. This extraordinary effort provided 58,000 meals, targeted to the hungry children in our area. We look forward to another successful drive in 2009."

This spring college "Hunks" are again doing an event to benefit the Central Ohio Community.

According to a press release they are having a Junk BBQ in Hilliard Saturday April 25, 2009.   The event is   11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  at 999 Parkway Lane, #9  Hilliard, OH  43026

Their description of the event:

"The Columbus Hunks are hosting a community event at which people can bring as much junk as they can carry to be donated, disposed of properly or, better yet, recycled for free.

In return for the free junk hauling  Jeff Arpin, Columbus franchisee, and his Hunks are asking for canned goods to help Ohio families in need. Each can is worth $2 toward purchasing quality junk that will be on sale at the event.

All proceeds from the sale as well as the collected cans will be donated to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank."

I suppose all the local "Hunks"  are not all OSU students, there are lots of colleges in Columbus Capital University, Columbus State, CCAD, Franklin, Otterbein... but the local webpage has a picture of "the Shoe"  even if the website  is Orange and Green... They franchise in college towns across the US.
