NEW HAMPSHIRE SUNDAY MORNING
Concord, New Hampshire & Eminent Domain
One of the most interesting on going stories of Concord New Hampshire is the story of the Langley Parkway. The Parkway has been an ongoing project in Concord for many years. The project seeks to connect Clinton Street (a major route to Rt.89) and the entrance to Concord Hospital.
As the project nears completion there is one small obstacle! The Tuttles! The Tuttles live in a small house that sits in the middle of the projected Langley Parkways path. And the Tuttles don't want to move!
The Tuttles have owned their house since 1935. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. Mr. Tuttle's father Don was the editor of a promotional magazine New Hampshire Troubadour and a pioneer of Winter Tourism in New Hampshire.
The City of Concord has been very sympathetic to the Tuttles and have offered to move the home to a similar setting in the city. The Tuttles cannot come to agreement of the "spots" suitability. As of April the city has declared Eminent Domain and the Tuttles house is scheduled to be moved. As for the Tuttles???They haven't decided!
Right up to the Back Fence!
Epsom, New Hampshire & a Cataclysmic Event
May 2006 will be rmembered in New Hampshire as the Mothers Day Floods. In Epsom, NH it is known as the day the River died! On that day the Suncook River, swollen from the torrential rains, changed its course and Geologists saw something they may see only once in a lifetime...the birth of a new river reach.
The Mighty(?) Suncook
Many, along the river that for so long had provided a generous gift of recreation and ambiance , were now left in limbo. The Epsom Valley Campground..no longer had "great Fishin" and swimmin!
An Endangered Species mussel known as the brook floater was rescued and sent to the Nashua Fish Hatchery. THe situation presently is under study by the Army Corps of Engineers.
