Okay, time for a quick rant and to vent some recent frustration....
I was watching Bill Hemmer and Megan Kelly on Fox News the other morning (one of my rare TV routines after the morning gym workout with the wife), and Bill was interviewing some big wig with AT&T over the recent fiber-optic cable sabotage in Silicon Valley.
What was so annoying about listening to this guy being interviewed was that he totally ignored the questions that Bill was asking, and used the entire time to simply 'plug' how great AT&T was. Rather than apologizing for the inconvenience to their customers, or detailing their quick response in resolving the problem, he droned on and on about AT&T being the Number One provider, their superior track record of performance, and exemplary customer service rating,...blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
I wonder sometimes if that's the way we come across on our blogs and through various social media that we use. Is this how consumers perceive us? Rather than engaging in meaningful conversation, we simply 'dump' our blatant self-promotional, one-sided 'litter' around the Internet, and fail to interact 'socially' with our audience.
With so many amazing tools at our disposal these days that make SMO (Social Media Optimization) a much easier and less time-consuming process, there's really no excuse for us not to take advantage of these tools, and effectively expand and enhance our digital Sphere of Influence. And not just for promotional purposes, but to connect with other human beings on a deeper level.
So the next time you're uploading that new listing, or posting the latest market report, take a moment to engage and connect with someone through 'social' media.
A couple of people I highly respect and who totally understand the use of social media in business are Dustin Luther and Jeff Turner. What has always impressed me about these guys is their unselfish willingness to share their knowledge so freely with others. I would encourage you to subscribe to their blogs here on ActiveRain and to pay close attention to the very practical advice they dispense.
