Image of Wolf Creek Dam in Kentucky

Wolf Creek Dam Could affect several Nashville Homes for Sale if a break occurs.  The Corps of Engineers has provided maps that are available online or in most local libraries...wherein you can find any home in the area to determine if you are in this possible flood zone.

Obviously most of the affected area is along the Cumberland River...which would include some lake homes and nearby low-lying areas.

The Dam repair project has entered a new phase of construction.  They are in the process of drilling more than 275' into bedrock to construct a massive concrete wall....which will be thicker and longer than the original wall built in the 1970's.  It will extend almost a mile across an earthen part of the dam.

Workers have already pumped nearly a billion gallons of grout into the foundation to help stabilize the dam....and water levels have been significantly lowered to reduce any risk during this repair period.  But these repairs will allow higher water levels for the 2010 recreational season, which will be welcome news to businesses that depend on lake tourism for their income.

The total cost involved in this repair project is a whopping $580 MILLION.

If you are interested in purchasing a Nashville Home for Sale - be sure to check the Wolf Creek maps to determine whether you should buy flood insurance.  This insurance is available through your agent for a maximum of $250,000.
