Not Returning Calls!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with RICOASTALLIVING.COM

This weekend I had a new buyer call me. Because I needed to get him qualified,

I called, emailed and left messages with a company that I thought would be a good match for him. (He asked me to do this for him)

This am, I called again and left messages, because I told my buyer he would definitely hear from me by this morning.

It is 11:00 am and I have not had a return phone call!  My dilemma is this.

  • I am very angry at this company  for  not returning my call, and now do not want to use them for anything!
  • They appear to have the best "programs" for this particular client who is my first interest.

How long should I wait for a return call?  And should I just forget about this company and start calling around for more "active" mortgage people?

In most states, Loan officers are not licensed, certified or examined. They could have been working at Home Depot last week; this week they're not returning your calls for your pre-approval. The loans officers I use have all been in the business for 15 to 20 years, have great product expertise, are highly responsive and have competitive loans. You have been given an opportunity to shop for the best in your area. Good luck!

You should always have a couple more up your sleeve to call on. But if this is someone you trust and have a relationship with, give them until days end.

Even if your loan rep is out of town, he should have arranged for someone to take his calls, to have them forwarded to his cell phone, etc.  If the company is not returning your calls at the front end, they certainly aren't likely to at the back end.  Find someone else.

Okay, they called me back at around 11:30 took the info and called my client.

I spoke to him later. He said they called him, took his info and said they would call back, and didn't.

I am going to try calling them again this am and see what happens. Although I agree, that they should be more on top of things, they really do have the best program for this client.

Thanks for all the responses.

Karen--they may have the best program, but if they are unresponsive a lot of stuff can fall through the cracks and you will be the one looking bad for recommending them.  Find someone else quick!

If your clients are not being taken care of now, they are unlikely to be taken care of in even more important ways. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not exactly chump change.

Karen:

I dont know which mortgage firm you called, but I have had some bad experiences with one on Hope Street near Hope Highschool...

I have a good relationship with an excellent loan officer at Landmark Mortgage Lenders on Weyland Ave in Providence... Mandie Sullivan... she is fabulous... personal attention, very responsive... if you would like to give her a call, just say I recommended her... 401-474-1861 is her cell phone... she WILL answer it whenever you call, except from about 11 in the evening till about 7 in the morning... email is mandie@personalmortgagebrokers.com

Let me know how it goes...

Just an update. They did get back to me and they did qualify my guy.. I did a little research on some programs and mentioned these to them and yes they could work with those also.  All in all, it turned out to be a very good thing for my client. Guess I am just too impatient.
