That's not exactly what I want. I want to know what kind of hammer this is. Don't tell me it has a wooden handle either everyone can see that. It is commonly used in construction, so a lot of you will know what it is.

I would say Ross hammered that one:) Rock hammer: AKA Brick, block, hammer----as well as several other names.
Jack and Izzy - I don't know the name of that gadget, but kind of recall having one in my hand and using the spiked end to tear into old sheet rock needing to be replaced. I didn't hang the new stuff - just enjoyed demolishing the old stuff.

Charles, your right there are a couple of correct names.
Myrl the fun part of construction is sometimes demolition.

It is a hammer with a wood handle. I would call it a rock pick or rock hammer. Not sure of the exact name but I use one sometimes in crawl space inspections.
It's a brick hammer for all you professional masons out there.
Jack - I was always a great demolition person. I'd wait until I became frustrated about something in my life, and then take it out on a wall:-) I didn't care about the name of the tool was in my hand, as long as it got the job done:-) Fortunately, I was married to an electrician, and then had a really good friend who was into home improvements:-)
Tools? Hammer? Construction? Hmmmm. I think this is above my pay grade. I'm outta here.
Myrl, I knew I liked you for some reason. The sledge hammer (10 to 15 pounder of course) is one of my favorite tools.
Jim - thanks for the comment. I haven't used one much myself.
It does, indeed, look like a brick hammer, but I haven't used -- or seen -- one in about 15 years. We don't have too much brick out this way. If you find a stucco hammer, though, let me know.
I have one just like it, although all metal, which I use for prospecting for geodes... it's made by Estwing and is a TERRIFIC hammer. I keep it in my garden shed and it also doubles to remove rocks from my garden!

RR - I've been looking for a Stucco Hammer, but can't seem to find one. LOL
Jay - You use yours the way I use mine. Except last year I cut some brick into pieces for a walk.
Jack.. I remember my father having a tool like this, but for the live of me I have no idea what the name is. This is now the second "Wazzit" you have stumped me on.
Oooh Jack & Izzy, just seeing any type of hammer brings back a funny story for me. I got hit in the head w/ framing hammer once.
Yep, I was helping my husband while taking those pin things out of the door hinge and BAM the end hit me square in the forehead. I fell straight down. I was okay, a bit dizzy and a small dent there for a day or so.
Valerie, a masonary hammer isn't what most people carry around in their tool kit.
Cynthia, I'm glad it wasn't a permanent injury.
I gotta say I use that excuse w/ the hammer hit on the head as my permanently silly state of mind ;)
Cynthia, I was hit in the head by a 36" pipe wrench 20 years ago and I use that as an excuse too.
Ouch that size wrench smarts!!!
Ya know Jack & Izzy, we could start a whole thread on this subject alone.
Last week I was in a floral wholesale house, got distracted by some darn pretty purple flowers and fell over the cart. Luckily my hand went in the bucket filled w/ water and not my head. I came so close and I would have had to deliver the flowers looking like a drowned rat, oh well!
I did end up w/ about a 5 inch bruise, that bruise is still there this week. But hey they sure remembered me today when I went in :)
Cynthia, It knocked me cold and as a result a Med Student got to practise some stitches in the head (7). Told him that I was glad to be of service.
I was going to say that it's a hammer, but you crapped on that answer, so I thought I'd say it was a wooden hammer. That answer went down the toilet, too. Maybe it's one of those special bopping devices that my marketing guru uses to bop people on the head when they won't listen to him. LOL
