Herbs can be good for your garden

A small herb garden is a great addition to any country kitchen. They are generally easy to grow and require only well drained, nutrient rich soil to prosper. Adding certain herbs to your garden can also be beneficial to your other plants.

Dill, parsley and fennel tend to attract some of the more beneficial insects to your garden. Insects like their low-lying flowers and can help your garden prosper.

Planting basil along side tomatoes and peppers can help enhance the flavor.

Bees and butterflies are also attracted to many herbs. These insects help to encourage the fertilization process in flower gardens. Clover, hyssop, tyme and sage are especially good to use. Lavender and oregano also help to grow beautiful flowers, plus they look nice and are edible.

Clover, a legume like peas and beans, is an excellent addtion to your garden. It helps in the fixation of nitrogen which is added to the soil and it attracts beneficial insects. Use caution as to where you plant it, sometimes it can overpower low growing plants.
