Stressed - Out by HOME CLUTTER?

As more and more homes come on the market it seems that I am giving the same advice over and over again to my listing clients.

Household clutter tends to take on a life of its own.  What starts as just a few items here or there can end up as a mountain of stuff that seems to be impossible to manage.  Here are a few tips to help you not Agonize but Organize!

Incoming Clutter - Bills, fliers, newspapers, we all get them everyday.  Deal with it right away by either filing it or tossing it.

Misplaced Clutter - things like, books, clothing, toys.  All that's needed is a quick pick up to their own space.  Coat in the closet, toys to the toy box.

Getting started - Getting organized doesn't have to be like going to battle but having a plan in mind will make it easier.  Start with one area at a time and expand that area each day.  Don't try to do it all in one day.  If you start with the family area then family members can use the same principles in their own spaces.  The important thing is to start somewhere.

It feels good to get rid of the clutter, but unless you change your thinking and actions regarding the "stuff", you'll end up right back where you started. Missing Keys?, Missing Bills?... Spend 10 minutes in the evening or morning (I prefer the morning, so that I come home to a clutter free home) on a quick pick-up.  Getting organized and maintaining a clutter-free home is one of the best steps you can take toward a stress-free life.

How about that Refrigerator?  One shelf at a time, by removing all items and wiping off shelves and interior walls.

Toss everything with an expiration date that has gone by.  Replace items by putting the tallest in the back.

Store leftovers in stack-able containers. Smaller bottles and jars can be grouped together in a larger container that is easier to remove all at once.  Provided the door shelves are already full!
