Before I begin my second round of selecting the one article of each Apprentices Blog that would possibly cause me to hire them, I would like to say a few words about "Stream of Consciousness" blogging.

When I wrote the first round of six apprenctice blogs I opened each blog as I was writing the post.  I scanned through as a consumer would, meaning I only went as deep into the blog as a consumer might before leaving the blog.

Actually in this case, I stayed longer than a consumer would, looking for a specific type of post.  A consumer might not give you that amount of time.  In my "half way there" post after the seventh week and at the beginning of week 8, I will be more brutal.  Though some think I've been too brutal already.

Stream of Consciousness is recording your thoughts and reactions in real time AS YOU HAVE the reaction.  Sure we could stick around and rationalize and try to come up with something positive to say.  But the real estate industry is highly competitive.  To suggest that people will stick around long if you turn them off at first glance is simply not constructive.  We all know that consumers in the real estate arena whiz right by that property whose pictures look bad at first glance and that agent whose blog turns them off at first glance.

Sure, there are many homes on market that a buyer might purchase if they didn't rule them out on the internet.  If they actually went to the home, they might buy it.  But that doesn't change the fact that people DON'T got to see the home if it doesn't make the cut in there first view on the internet.

Same holds for blogs.  By saying YAY or NAY at first glance, I will be reporting my reactions as if I am a consumer looking for an agent in Stream of Consciousness style.  Consumers want to SEE HOW YOU THINK, not what services you offer.  If I can't see you think...if I don't feel like I am standing in the room with you when I read you blog, then you are missing the boat.  And I intend to report that for whatever good it might do you.  Not because I am mean, but because you deserve my best thoughts.  My best thoughts are rarely sugar coated.

I like this writing....straightforward...to the point. My writing is like me as well.

I fight the tendency to be overly dramatic - I used to write more fiction and have to retool myself for matter-of-fact writing with some style.

Jeff,

I liked you blog at first glance.  It's a winner, for sure.  If you are "overly dramatic" in person, then by all means, be overly dramatic in your writing style.  Just pretend there's a client in the room with you when you are talking with your fingers.

But you need no instruction.  Your blog is right on target.

Jeff,

I not only felt like I had visited Lancaster, I also felt that you had spoken to me personally.  That's a blog.

Here I was afraid you were going to go against the "stream of consciousness" style, because that's about all I'm good at!  I'm glad you pointed out the value in it, we DO want to give a little peek at how we think.

Hi ARDELL,

Thanks for offering real world advice from someone who has actually been able to make blogging a successful, satisfying and useful expenditure of time and effort.

I may not like everything someone says, but I sure do like getting the feel that I "hear" them when they are saying it.  I have had several occurrences where I met someone (please, nobody read anything into this - I am truly not talking about anyone here on AR, rather more generic) and having read what they write, there is NO WAY that I would have ever connected them with the writings.  Everything from the style, to the grammar was radically different.  I came away from the experience confused and with my BS detector going off like crazy.

I really felt that what I was seeing was the result of hiring a great writer and, while that has value, in this arena it is not as valuable, I believe, as putting what and who you are out there warts and all.  I feel, that if folks like me based on my writing, they probably will like me when we meet.   And, if they don't like me, based again upon my writing, then they probably would not be thrilled with my personality if I were standing in the room.  Who I am when I write and who I am when I speak are very much the same.  But, you know that already having spoken to me via telephone.

Thanks again for offering the "straight poop" so to speak.  I appreciate it, especially because although it takes Rain to make a garden grow it also takes a good dose of manure :-).

Take care, help lots of people and have a wonderful day!

Tisza,

I have decided to enlist a blogclient for the Halfway Review post.  I think a consumer, or a few of them if I can get them to do it, who actually picked an agent from her blog might be the best perspective.  I'll try to get one male and one female to participate.

ARDELL,

Woo Hoo!  A Real, Live, Experienced member of the Blogosphere!  I am THRILLED!  I know people are reading what I am writing and I discovered by looking at my analytics info that I am getting the preponderance of my traffic from California which I think is a good thing, but I would love to get a "real person's" opinion.

You will still publish the second half of your posting though, right?

Thanks,

Tisza

LOL,

Whomever decided April through July to have a contest involving real estate agents, was obviously not a real estate agent :)  Yes I'll get to it.
