Attention Renters, Is it better to Own a home , than to rent?

If you are renting and are thinking of buying a home please consider the following :

1. When you own a home, you may be able to take advantage of tax break for mortgage interest and Real estate taxes. Talk to a tax professional for information or look on www.irs.gov In many cases it may be cheaper to own than to rent .

2.If you have a fixed rate mortgage the monthly payments will remain the same except for Real estate taxes, home owners association fees and insurance , that can increase .

3.In the long run, home prices go up so you can build equity. But no one has a crystal ball and we can not guarantee what the prices will be when you want to sell.

Gita - This is a good piece and always sound advice. I am a firm believer in home ownership ... even in these rocky times ... the end will always justify to effort. This is a "long run" game not a quick profit scheme! Thanks for the awesome post!
