The Economy

                 The Economy

                                  The Economy

Question is:  What do you know about it?

Question 2:  What can YOU do about it?

Question 3:  Why bother with it at all?

As a REALTOR®, my practice is directly affected by various factors in the economy - and I'm constantly getting questions from people about the state of it.  Am I an economist?  No.  Do I know what is going to happen with interest rates?  No.  Do I know what is going to happen in the job market?  No.

What I do know is what is happening in my local real estate market today, what has happened in the past - and the simple fact that being a participant in discussing the future of my region is more rewarding than passively letting it happen TO it.

The Big E is probably the most discussed, least understood topic of conversation over fences, at the dinner table, around the water cooler.  What can I do about my ignorance?  Learn & get involved with people who are deeply involved in shaping & advocating what the future of my region is going to look like.

Metro Pima Alliance LogoRecently, I joined the Metropolitan Pima Alliance to do just that.  It is an aliance of business, government & non-profit leaders in the Tucson area.  Why?  Because I believe that the economic future of Tucson is of great interest & importance to me.  Tucson's regional economic development directly impacts the Tucson Real Estate Market - and the lives of past & future clients.  That's why.  Over the next four months, the focus of our breakfast meetings is regional economic development.

MPA's Mission Statement:

The Metropolitan Pima Alliance is dedicated to improving the quality of life and the economic viability of metropolitan Pima County. MPA strives to create dialogue among diverse groups to promote sound community planning solutions.

By learning from others who know more about things than I do, perhaps I can offer some sort of assistance in my own small way.  If I don't learn, there's no way I can help.  Knowing what is happening on the economic front in Tucson can be beneficial both to my clients and my practice.  I'd much rather take part in discussions that are about doing something than sitting around moaning.

This isn't going to give me a crystal ball or make me into something I'm not...but learning & participating is the key to understanding.

Are YOU learning or doing anything to take part in your community's future?  Get involved!

Kent-great post. Getting involved locally is what will get us out of this mess, not the government. If people use their local services, grocery stores, gas stations, and real estate professionals, it will improve the local economy. You will be helping your neighbor as well as the country. My family has decided to use only local services to keep the community going, I hate to see businesses leave my town.

Another excellent post Kent. Great one and thanks for sharing. I like your words "I'd much rather take part in discussions that are about doing something than sitting around moaning."  Absolutely right.

So I'm looking at your widget, and you've got someone from Canada, and someone from Africa reading you right now.  How bizarre.  And good for you for getting involved.

Mike - thanks for stopping by.  "Why wait for Washington?" is going to be the battle cry that gets us going town-by-town, state by state.

Suma - always nice to have you stop by.

Sally - I am constantly amazed at the variety of locales that readers some from.  Isn't the internet a wonderful tool?
