Yesterday was a beautiful day in Knoxville with temperatures in the mid 70's. I, with the help of friends and family, took advantage of this and put numerous plants into the ground for this year's vegetable garden. While some veggies, most notably eggplant, are not quite ready for planting, many varieties of numerous other garden favorites, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, etc. made their way into the compost rich east Tennessee soil. Still too early here in the North East, usually around Mother's Day.

Terri - This is always an exciting time of year with so many changes.

Donald - At least that isn't too far away.

And today it rained!

We're getting closer to starting the garden. We're hoping for no more snow storms.

Hi Rich...I think it's wonderful that you have a garden.  I'm looking forward to photos of your delicious looking veggies.

It's a little early, yet, here. And it's also the wrong moon phase (plant above ground plants on a waxing moon). Does the moon phase thing work? I don't know, but it's habit taught me by my farmer relatives.

Alice & Jim - We have hopefully had our last cold night, 38 degrees night before last, and are consistently warming into the mid 70's during the day. I hope your cold weather passes quickly.

Kate - Next best thing to growing your own is supporting the local farmers at farmers' markets as I know you do!

Leslie - I do know that lots of people plant according to the moon phases; I do believe that there is something to old wisdom. If you have a garden this year, I wish you much success.

Karen - It is actually the same size but the new raised beds allow for a more efficient use of space and a good (hopefully) yield of potatoes, carrots, onions, raddishes, and peanuts. Friends and family make everything more enjoyable.

WOW! Snow what a concept. We only get it in Austin about once every 8-9 years and it lasts an hour or two if we are lucky. Neat shot, thanks for sharing! Good luck with the tomatos!!
