One of the questions everyone asks when contemplating moving to Kapalua, is where do you buy your groceries.  Like everyone else I know, it's a mix of Costco runs, The Fish Market for fresh fish, Lahaina Farms for wonderful ready to cook meals, and various other markets for staples. 

Growing up in the Upcountry area of Maui, we always had a garden, and truthfully, that's something I miss about a busy work life.  A few weeks ago, a friend told me about a fantastic service called "Kula Fields."  This farmer's market on wheels, was started by Roxanne Tiffin, who was surprised to learn that 85% of Maui's food comes from the mainland, and found farmer's market schedules were too varied and unpredictable.  Her solution was to find the best local produce and bring it right to your door.  She told me that West Maui was her biggest route.   

Every other week (you can do this each week if you wish), I receive a box at the door filled with whatever is growing fresh upcountry.  This week, I received lettuce, herbs, bell peppers, tomatoes, kale, bok choy, green beans, zucchini, onions, papayas, strawberries, and apple bananas.  A newsletter lets me know what I've received, how it was grown, and includes recipes to follow with much needed helpful hints.

You can also select groceries from a variety of local companies, including Maui Cattle Company, Surfing Goat Dairy (known for their gourmet cheese), Maui Seafood Company, Maui Coffee Roasters, Jeanne the Bread Lady, Oils of Aloha, Alii Kula Lavender, and more!
