swinging in the rain Linda Bourgault

No, I am not advocating XXX Swinging, although...a Vulcan mind-meld with Jeff Turner, Sally Cheeseman, Brad Andersohn and Kathy McGraw would be the best real estate industry education you could ever receive. However, I wouldn't hook-up with them simultaneously because my wee brain would explode and you'd all have a heckuva time cleaning the backside of your computer screen... YUCK!

What I am saying is whenever I'm stuck, blocked or on empty trying to conjure a blog post to Activerain... I go swing. Yep, that's right, I head outside and hop in my swing. I live in a wonderful place... surrounded by Live Oak trees, natural vegetation, wildlife and gorgeous views. It's a park-like setting where I have the perfect perch to sit upon. My swing is located down two flights of stairs and a few steps the left... it's the old fashioned kind surrounded by a huge sand box. When you jump out of the swing you are guaranteed a safe landing... well, most of the time!

Swinging takes me back to my childhood, it encourages me to play, be curious and see the world through fresh eyes. A few days ago I was in a rut, so I headed out to my swing, but this time I grabbed my camera. I placed the camera strap around my neck just before kicking-off. While I was swinging, I shot randomly not caring about what or whether I was capturing anything. It was the act of allowing the camera to capture whatever it was pointing at without any concern as to subject, quality or anything else... it was serendipitous and whatever revealed itself would be a surprise!

What fabulous fun to swing with abandon... to lean back watching the sun dance on the leaves... to feel the wind blowing through my hair... to smile and laugh with the delight of it all. After swinging for about twenty minutes (it's good exercise too) my head was clear and I was ready to go back inside and hit the keyboard once again.

Then I hooked my camera to my computer and downloaded the images I frivolity Linda Bourgaultcaptured. I selected two to

accompany this post. The first one is of my legs and feet which turned out darned good considering it was unplanned. The second one displays the frivolity of my experience!

So when you are in a rut, blocked or just need some fun... go swing. Your readers, friends, family and co-workers will thank you!

Happy Swinging in the RAIN!

It is great to let that inner child come out and play.  That certainly is where creativity resides.

Hi Joan—You are the first to comment tonight. You are right about where creativity resides... tapping into our inner child is key. Thanks and have a great week!

You could try to get that photo of your legs, on purpose, and it would probably take dozens of shots - cool image!

Great post, Linda.  I don't have a swing so maybe I'll just go hammer some nails into wood, or chop up some trees or something.  :-)

I guess you just have to find a way to let your mind wander free of any constraints and see what happens.

Linda, I too like to do something carefree when I am all "thought up".  Helps keep things in perspective.

Hi Mike—Hammering nails, chopping wood, digging in the dirt... whatever works to help clear you mind and get the creative juices flowing is a great way to let loose of the clutter in our heads.

Thank you. Have a great week!

Linda - A very nice post to make me want to take a moment and reflect. I have been having 14 hour days all week and am now exhausted. The spring market is in full gear and I'm fielding multiple offers now. Amazing! I need to go out and swing from something as well. I prefer a swing also....lol

Hi Linda, very good post! I have some people I would like to mind meld with, however since I am not Vulcan, and have not yet mastered the mind meld, I play with cows. Works for me!

Those are some very nice photos. Mike was right, if you tried you couldn't have done that, LOL. Great post!

Hi Robert—It's great that you have the business to keep you hopping, but those long days can get to you after awhile. Swings are good, but a vine will do in a pinch - lol!

Be good to yourself... take some time to re-balance. Have a great week!

Hi Andrea—The mind meld thing is a bit tricky... sometimes you find out more than you want to know - lol! Playig with cows works... but playig with dogs works for me. I've always wanted a pot bellied pig... think they would be good playmates. Do yoou know anything about them?

Mike is right, if I tried to set-up the shot it would have taken a long time or I might not have gotten it at all. Take care and have a great week!

Linda, I don't have a swing but I do love to go out and sit on my back patio.  I love the picture you got of your feet.  I've been enjoying playing with my camera.  I love being able to just click, click, click and then delete, delete, deleter until you find that one special picture.

If I tried the swing, I'd get upset. The seat isn't wide enough anymore, the chain is to weak, and if by some miracle I can get the swing moving, the whole thing might poll out of the ground like it did when my dad tried it 50 years ago :)

Linda I like the movement in the photo. Swinging is one of the best and most fun FREE things you can do. It really does let you unwind.

Hi Marchel—It doesn't matter what you do as long as you find a way to reconnect with your imagination. Playing with your camera is a great way to do it... and the digital age makes it much easier for us to find the BEST picture!

Thank you. Have a great weekend!

Hi Ed—I know what you mean... they don't make swings the way they used to - lol! Whomever built the one I swing on must have been an engineer because it has reinforced chain covered with a plastic sleeve, the supports are 2 x 6s with metal brackets and the seat is wide and flexible to accommodate just about anyone. However, it doesn't matter what you do...as Mike said, "hammer nails or chop wood"... or day dream in a hammock, walk in the park... just let go and have some fun.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week!

Hey Gary—Good to see you again. I hadn't thought about swinging being FREE, but that's a definite plus for certain. It's also a good alternative for me when I don't have time to load my kayak and drive to the lake. So let's see, good exercise, free, convenient and fun... tough combo to beat!

Thanks. Have a great week!

OK, Linda.  I think I need a swing in my backyard now.  I better go talk to my hubby.  It's funny that you post this, though.  Because, when my son and I were coming down the hill yesterday, we saw a tire swing in someone's yard.  I remember swinging from a tire swing when I was a kid and how much fun that was.

Hello SIS-That must have been fun. I think I will have to do that myself. It will definitely take me back to a simpler time. Hope you had a great Sunday.

Aloha Sally—Do you mean you get frightened or you just don't want to do it anymore? Well, that's OK, there are plenty of things to do in paradise to keep the creative juices running.

Thanks. Have a great week!
