Many intersections in Virginia Beach are dangerous, made more so by people who intentionally run red lights.  The City of Virginia Beach is taking action by installing cameras at various intersections to catch those red light runners red handed.  You may have seen them while you are doing your errands.  There are red light cameras at Kempsville and Indian River Road area, Virginia Beach Boulevard and Independence, Indian River Road and Military Highway, and Holland Road and Rosemont Road, just to name a few.

How this program works is if you run a red light the camera will take a photo of you (make sure you smile), and mail you a ticket.  Currently law enforcement is only able to catch about 12% of violators, and if you drive in Hampton Roads I am sure you agree the number of red light runners is higher.

So as you are driving today make sure you slow down, take your time, and if you see the light is yellow or red make sure you stop.  Save a life.
