Dated kitchen no more...

By
Home Stager with Hawley Interiors & Staging

The homeowners of this fabulous $1.35mil home in Caledon truly understood the need to make changes before listing their property. The kitchen was very large and had a great layout, however, it was tired and dated...

We had the floors refinshed in a rich, medium brown. The cabinets were painted and new hardware was added. We replaced the tired corian countertop with granite and extended it from the island to add a breakfast bar. The backsplash was replaced with tumbled marble and finally, the light fixtures were replaced...

Now this home is ready for today's market.

Hawley Interiors & Staging proudly services the beautiful hills of Caledon including Caledon Village, Caledon East, Palgrave, Bolton, Alton, Inglewood and Cheltenham.

Great work Kimberley,

The new kitchen is so much fresher looking.  What else did you do in the home?

Thanks Sharon, We did a ton of work on this house. We gutted the powder room and master en-suite, painted all 6,000 sq feet from top to bottom. I'll post more pictures once I get them.

I always tell homeowners.  Paint is the most cost effective thing you can do to update a home.  Great choice for an island light fixture and warm wall color.  The new color definately makes the cabinets stand out... GREAT ceiling medallion.. was that there before?  A gerat ceiling medallion is worth it's weight in gold..

Have a great day from the Pacific Northwest

Hi Todd, Paint is the world's greatest invention! The medallion was actually there...just lucky I guess. Thanks for your comments.

Hi Kathy, The painting of the cabinets was a major undertaking and we had it done professionally so it wasn't cheap but it was definitely worth it. I was fortunate to be working with very open minded home owners. Thanks so much for the feature.

That looks terrific! You were lucky to find homeowners who had an open mind. Most home owners don't want to paint their kitchen cabinet. They don't like the idea of painting wood. And even though the kitchen looks spectacular now, do you think that changing the door knobs, counter and fixture would have been enough? Great job Kim

Hi Diane, we had the kitchen cabinets professionally painted so it was a bit expensive but worth it. I would just pick up a brush and get at it if I were you :)

Carmela, Thanks for the compliment. With so many exotic woods on the market today, oak cabinets just don't cut it. Painting them was a must. We considered just switching the hardware and coutertops but it just would be enough for this house. Thanks, kim

I've just got to comment on the light fixtures, they are stunning! If you happen to know the brand, I'd love to look them up. The rest is great, too, and I can't wait to see more pictures.

Regarding the ceiling medallion that Todd mentioned; you can get them super cheap at Lowes/Home Depot, and just paint them the ceiling color (or any color) to make them look expensive. Very easy to install, too.

Hi Peg, Thanks for your compliments. Thefixtures are Murray Feiss (the Casual Collections). When you're in this kitchen it's the fixtures that pull it all together.

Hi Lisa, The kitchen is great however, the home owners bought a beautiful 11,000 sq ft. house so I think they're still quite pleased to move. thanks so much for the compliment.

Vivian, Thank you. You're right about that, it now is in line with the target asking price.

Holly, Open minded sellers are the best! I know a lot of sellers would have said no way to the changes. Thanks so much for you comments.

Kimberley,

Love love love what you did!  Your transformation will greatly contribute to these sellers getting that asking price.  Before your work, there would've been no way - the kitchen, large as it was, would've still turned off many buyers as it would've represented a lot of work.  In this price range, none of the rooms can be dated or seen as 'fixer uppers'.

And yes, please share where you found the cool lighting.

Excellent job!

Mel
