Motivational Power Quote

The Best Way to Win an Argument

"The only way to get

the best of an argument

is to avoid it."

Dale Carnegie, author

As I see it. . . . . . . .

The best way to win an argument; is not to be involved in one.

When you lose an argument; you lose.

When you win an argument; you lose.

In either case you lose.

If you attempt to convince someone against their will, they will remain unconvinced and you will damage your relationship.

When faced with disagreement hear the other person out and understand their point of view.

Establish the area's of the disagreement and seek a common ground for solutions and agreement.

Form a basis of common trust and cooperation.

Thank the other person for their input and their interest in finding a resolution.

Get the consciences on the areas of agreement and take the steps for resolution on the areas of disagreement.

Be seen as facilitator not an opponent.

Lou:

Sounds good!  If only I could remember all of this at the moment I am confronted with a situation which seems so difficult!

I bought Dale Carnegie's book and try to re-read it now and then.  I have met very successful agents who have incorporated these ideas into their daily procedures.  How terrific is that?!

Lou - What a great idea.  I have always been one that felt compelled to be right when it came to a disagreement.  I slowly have learned that it doesn't really matter, and I sometimes still forget and get very strong headed.  I will try and remember your thoughts.

Lou, Dale Carnegie is one of my all time favorite authors. He had so many great quotes.

Lou,

The best way to stop an argument is to say, "You're right". In their mind they are; all you did was shut the argument down.

Good one! And I agree with Terry! It's amazing how acknowledging someone's point of view - that they seem to hold passionately can disarm them
