Rancho Palos Verdes is now taking a new look at the wind turbine electrical generation issue after a city resident, Guillermo Ramirez, put up a 35-foot-tall wind turbine without first seeking city permission. Rancho Palos Verdes allows such systems in commercial and institutional zones, but not in residential areas.

The 35-foot-tall Skystream 3.7 - a small wind turbine marketed for residential use - overlooks Palos Verdes Drive East from Ramirez's fruit tree-filled backyard. Mr. Ramirez initially flew an American Flag from the top of the structure for several weeks, and when no one complained, he installed his new wind turbine. After the turbine was installed, however, several neighbors complained.

The City of Rancho Palos Verdes is now reviewing their current ordinances prohibiting such wind turbines in residential areas to see if revisions may be warranted.  What do you think?
