Hurricane Preperation for Homeowners

Allstate would like to educate homeowner's on the 2007 hurricane season.  Experts predict a 74% chance of another major hurricane this year.  Here is what you can do.

• Conduct a home inventory. Record each of your possessions, room by room. Use a digital camera to capture your possessions.  Hurricanes cant damage  cyber space. This will help sorting through damaged items if you ever need to make a claim.  (keep receipts of expensive items)

• Gather all important items such as birth certificates, insurance policies, and identification. Make sure to placethem in a waterproof container.

• Prepare an Emergency Supply Kit with a 3-day supply of water, non-perishable food, radio, flashlight, and first-aid kit.

• Pre-select a safe location for your car. If you do not have access to a garage or carport, find a place away from poles and trees.

• Purchase materials such as 3/4" plywood that can be used to reinforce your windows, doors, and garage doors.

• Develop an evacuation plan that includes identification of safe areas, escape routes, meeting locations, and plans for pets.

• Find out if you have comprehensive coverages on your auto insurance. This will usually reimburse you for damage to your vehicle
