Integrity Comes from Where?

Funny is it not that a lot of what we are is a product of the influence that other people may have had on us at some point in our lives. My grandmother told a story about a time when I was about seven years old she and my grandfather were watching from inside the house talking to a machinery dealer that called on my grandfather. My grandfather said as he looked out,"What is wrong with the kid? While he is standing there talking he turns his head and spits." Grandma told him thats just what he did and that I learned it from him. I have to say that is learned trait I lost a long time ago thankfully. The one thing that I did learn indirectly from my grandfather was from a story about his time as the president of the Town of Otter Creek board. He was checking on some road construction being done by a contractor on one of the town roads. The contractor wanted to take a short cut in the materials and offered my grandfather a bribe to look the other way. My grandfather told the contract that he was insulted to think that the contractor would offer a bribe, got very angry with the contractor and made sure that the work was done to specifications and probably beyond. He was held with high regard in the community and as he went on at the county level.

The only part that I really regret is that he passed away within months of my daugher being born in 1981 and she never got to know what a good, honest person of integrity. I hope that I have instilled that in her and she in her children.

Sounds like you had a great father. My father also died young and my six children never got to know him. I miss him. Great Post!
