Sadly, it was reported this week that the end of the month will mark the end of 50 years for a Dallas landmark.

Gigel's Liquor Sign @ Inwood and Lemmon

The sign for the Sigel’s Liquor store located at the corner of Inwood and Lemmon Avenues will be lost to progress as the store closes and the corner on which it sits is redeveloped.  (I have heard it will be the site of a new Bank of America branch.)

Originally put up in the 1950’s, the exciting neon sign has become a landmark for generations of Dallasites and has added a bit of pizzazz to an otherwise unexciting intersection.  It’s 50’s-style design and esthetic provided a futuristic feel when it was erected and for decades now, has given local residents a glimpse backward in design language.

The sign will be placed in storage by Sigel’s Liquor for placement at a different location in the future.  One television news report noted that the replacement value of the sign today would be roughly $75,000!

Goodbye Sigel’s Liquor sign… I hope we’ll see you again someday soon!

Steve:  In a typical Dallas sorta way... it is sad to see this landmark sign go.  I hope Sigel's eventually places it in some other very conspicuous location.  Also... that corner... Lemmon and Inwood... will in the future be "sporting" a brand new Bank of America branch ?  Geez... talk about unbridled excitement.  Do we really need another bank building ?  IMHO... there are way too many bank buildings as it is.  Anyhoo...thanks for sharing...

Hi Steve, I saw the story on the sign on the TV news. Times, they keep a changin'. This one had some longevity to it.

Steve:  I have a great idea.  Perhaps that corner would be a great place for a brand new KW office ?  Whaddya think ?

That is sad for a store that has been around that long to be replaced.

Hi Greg... I know!  Go figure!

Hi Karen Anne... I don't know that we really need another BofA branch or KW office there!

Hi Gary... It's sad to see something like that go after over 50 years... and it's great fun to look at all lit up!

Hi Jennifer... I agree!

Hi John... Yes, it is.  And that sign is really quite a special and unique one.
