If you have PCS orders to Fort George G. Meade in Maryland, a map of the huge D.C. – Baltimore area may seem a bit overwhelming as you try to decide where to look for a home when you arrive.

Let me re-assure you that everywhere within this circle I’ve drawn around Fort Meade (and even some communities beyond) will be less than a half-hour commute on a normal day.  Of course, from time to time there may be weather conditions or an accident slowing traffic, but that’s very rare.

Thank you for your service to our country!  I look forward to having an opportunity to serve you and your family.

As a Navy wife, I experienced several PCS moves myself - not to mention finding, buying and moving my family into a new home while my husband was deployed. I "get" military pay and how the various allowances impact your qualifying to buy a home.  And I know how to help military families move into their own home without any cash "up front" - something you cannot do as a renter.

I serve military families throughout the, D.C. - Baltimore - Annapolis area, specializing in Anne Arundel, Howard and Prince George's Counties, Maryland. You can contact me online or by cell/text at 301-346-2923 to help your family relocate to Fort Meade, Andrews AFB, the U.S. Naval Academy, or any other military installation in D.C. or Maryland.

Margaret, This is so helpful to all those who work at Ft. Meade. Very nice!

I have to say that things are closer than a person would assume. It's the same in Austin. When you look at a map the distances look far but your mileage estimates show that nothing is more than 21 miles. Very helpful!

Mary, This map is a great idea.  I should do one for Ft. Sam Houston.

I thought the same thing a map of our area would be quite helpful for someone that is thinking of moving into the area.

That was pretty cool. Showed a perspective on the area that may be suitable for buyers relocating to your area.

Sally - When we relocated here from San Diego, we were fortunate to have family members recommending places to visit.  Our REALTOR did not show us Crofton, but we came here because my grandmother thought we would like it.  Imagine our REALTORS surprise when we told him, "Sorry, we bought a house yesterday in an area you never mentioned to us."

Terry - If you pick a random place in the country and imagine yourself moving there, a look at the map is bound to confuse.

Shirley - I did one of these a few months ago for Northrop Grumman, a major employer in the area, and got a number of inquiries from it.  Eventually I'll do one for all the major employers in the area.

Russell - Love Austin!  And yes, you're right.  When my daughter went to grad school there it would have been easy to limit our exploration to the area around UT, but fortunately we stayed with a friend in the Hill Country for our exploratory visit, and knew how beautiful it was just a short distance away.

Linda - Why don't you do one for Aberdeen, and I'll link to it.

Margaret, is there ever really a normal day when it comes to commuting hour traffic in this part of the world?

Patricia - Yes, there is if you're commuting between Crofton and Fort Meade - or between most of these communities and Fort Meade.  No need to drive on the Beltway, I-95, BW Parkway, Route 50 or any of the major headache commuting routes!  That's the benefit of living and working in this area rather than D.C.!

Mary - I suspect most people relocating to this area are at least a llittle intimidated.  They're pleasantly surprised to find that commuting is a breeze by D.C. or Baltimore standards, because Fort Meade is so easy to get to from so many nice neighborhoods.

I love Crofton.  These small planned communities offer so much for families, even families of one.

I have never driven Crofton Circle without seeing folks out walking.  Walking the children.  Walking the dog.  Just walking.

It's a lovely and wonderful community.

Lenn - You're right... I call it the walking and running capitol of Maryland... on a busy weekend day with even more people out there, I call it the walking and running capitol fo the World.  LOL.  Thanks for your comment, Lenn.

What a nifty trick...how'd you get that circle on there? Something Google Maps can do?

Thom - I used Snagit to capture the map and used Snagit Editor to make the circle, saved it as a JPG to my desktop and the rest is history.

Hi Margaret -- What a great post.  I was in the Navy for four years -- U.S.S. Carl Vinson (CVN-70)...and used to live in the DC area.  What a great place to live.
