Late Spring Activities and Events ... Ocean City, New Jersey

It's all about the Spring ... everything happens starting in the spring in a resort community.  Why?  Because you tend to wait out the early, colder, wetter spring weather in hopes that it is dryer and warmer later in the spring.  So generally the kick-off for the spring is the "Doo Dah Parade" which was held last weekend.  Our next event doesn't take place in Ocean City ... but nearby in Somers Point (across the bay) this weekend with the "Bayfest."  And, of course, the big event is next weekend with the "Spring Block Party."

Obviously, we are in what many call "our shoulder season," the spring leading up to Memorial Day when the season kicks off (to some degree).  We also have a second "shoulder season" in the fall after Labor Day that runs through September and October.  But back to early June following Memorial Day, the next three weeks of June are much lighter because the real "ten week summer rental season" only gets started around the 20th of June this year which represents the first Saturday of the rental season.  This year is a bit unusual in that we have the 4th of July on a Saturday and we have a late Labor Day on September 7th.  But that is the typical arrangement of the calendar for the build-up to the major resort attraction ... the summer season in Ocean City, New Jersey.

Now you can also add the two major "buying periods" of the year to connect to the above.  The best and longest buying period is the Spring ... the next one is the fall.  It's quite difficult to show properties in the summer due to summer rentals and ongoing traffic and parking throughout the community.  It's obviously much easier to do all of this in the winter ... but the issue here is getting buyers down to the shore.

But activities and events are the life blood of a resort community ... and clearly, Ocean City does a great job ... the city employees and the Chamber of Commerce, and so many others including real estate people.  If you would like a copy of the calendar of events, let me know.
