Well, last night was the final 2-hour Season 6 finale for Jack Bauer and "24"
It's almost felt like the end of NFL season and no more Monday Night Football. Or the way you feel after the NCAA Basketball Tournament is over. There's this big empty hole in your life.
So how did this finale stack up against the previous seasons? Let's take a little walk down memory lane:
Well, as you may recall, Season 5 ended all nice and sweet, with Jack and Audrey hugging and kissing. All was right with the world. And then, faster than you can say 'Kung Pao Chicken,' Jack is shanghai'ed to China!
Season 4 finished with Jack being raised up from the dead, and walking off into the sunset to start a new life.
Season 3 concluded with Jack sitting in his government issue SUV and crying. They had to use a stand-in double, because as everyone knows, Jack Bauer never cries!
The cliff-hanging climax of Season 2 left us with President Palmer getting 'palmed.'
And who could ever forget the shocking conclusion of Season 1? Jack's wife, Teri, gets whacked by Nina, the operative everyone loves to hate!
In light of the previous seasons, I would have to say that this one kind of fizzled out in comparison. Jack is left standing on a steep cliff overlooking the ocean, with the gun still in his hand. What's up with that? Will it be the quick shot to the head, or the fateful jump to the pounding surf below? Or was he simply contemplating his next career move?
There were a couple of nice side-notes though:
Chloe is pregnant. Way to go, Morris! (Is it just me, or do you have a hard time envisioning Chloe being intimate with anyone?)
Karen and Bill Buchanan are awarded their 'Get-out-of-Jail-Free' cards, courtesy of Tom Lennox.
Josh is reunited with his mother.
And Cheng, sporting his new face-lift, is carried off into custody (Of course, our folks would never torture him like they did Jack back in China. Perhaps they'll just use 'Enhanced' interrogation techniques?)
So where do you think this leaves us with Season 7?
Maybe Mr. Silver Spoons (Ricky Schroder) comes back with his own series (in a Mike Longstreet makeover) as a blind investigative agent? Or perhaps Chloe and Morris do a reality TV show on how to balance having a baby with fighting terrorists?
Personally, I think it's absolutely AMAZING that we went an entire season without Kim Bauer getting kidnapped!
It's gonna be a long, long time until next January!
The finale had some good moments, but I agree, the ending did fizzle out. I thought Ricky was being set up to be the next Jack, but after the explosion to the face...I guess not! I did like seeing Bill run around with a vest and a gun like it was something he did everyday! Oh...and are you sure Morris is the father!?!?
