Successful Real Estate Agent Qualities ARE . . .
- Listen more than they speak--Ask questions to learn more about the client. Listen with your eyes as well as your ears. Learn to read their body language and read between the lines. A favorite excuse for a failed real estate transaction: 'If they would have told me they wanted a two story instead of a ranch . . .' If you are showing the buyers numerous two story homes and they are not picking one, ask, "WHY NOT???" The best agents know more about their clients than the client knows about them, except that they did a Great Job!
- People oriented & empathetic--Introduce yourself with a firm handshake. Smile, be friendly and show you care more about their needs than yours. Seek to understand their concerns and/or objections. Remember you sincerety will shine through.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic--Successful agents treat real estate as a business. Be willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done and done right. Set tomorrow's schedule before the end of today. Prioritize your To-do list . Seek out answers when needed.
- Self-confident--Successful agents are knowledgeable about the business. They are good problem solvers and know how to find the solution to any problem
- High integrity, competence and fairness--Being ethical as well as legal is more important than putting a transaction together for the most successful agents. "The term Realtor connotes competency, fairness and high integrity resulting from adherence to a lofty ideal of moral conduct in business relations." Quote from Code of Ethics Preamble.
- Professional--Successful agents dress appropriately & conduct their business activities in a professional manner. Never talk negatively about your competition. Remember: What goes around comes around.
- Good customer service skills--Successful agents communicate with their clients & customers on a regular basis. They respond to calls and e-mails in a timely manner. Successful agents are willing to go the extra mile to service their client.
