The Grass is Always Greener... Wright City, Missouri

The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side of the Fence, right? This phrase was so clear to me when I got to the barn in Wright City, MO, to see my horse Sierra this morning:

This is not my horse (I wish I had my camera.), but this is what she looked like when I arrived. Her head was stuck and she couldn't figure out how to get out.

Poor thing...She was standing quietly, resigning herself to her fate...My twin sister (Diane) & I got her unstuck, and she was very happy!

I hope she learned her lesson and doesn't try this again... :)

Glad she wasn't hurt. There's a lesson here - when you stick you neck out, deal with it. :)

Steve - LOL! I was glad that she wasn't all panicky...She really could've hurt herself, but didn't. I'm very thankful! :)

Barbara - I wish I had a picture of her in this predicament...I found this one and thought it was close enough. :)

Liz - It took a minute for it to register that she was stuck. She wasn't struggling, just standing quietly. I felt so sorry for her, but I'm so thankful that she wasn't hurt! :)

Debi, greener is not always better, especially if it gets you into a predicament that you can't get yourself out of :)

Oh! My! Gosh! This is like little kids getting their heads stuck on a railing! If someone at the Department of Agriculture saw this, they would probably issue new standards for fences on farms with horses!

Debi, horses can be so silly at times and this photo proves it.

I've lost count of just how many times some of my horses, have done that very thing. Sure am glad she did not hurt herself.

Debi.. Like others have mentioned, I'm glad she wasn't hurt. Hopefully she is young, otherwise you will have another saying at hand. "You can't teach old dogs new tricks". :)

Is this a common problem? How terrible. I'm glad the horse wasn't injured.

Hi Debi, Just 2 words..... Hot Wire! Just run an electric wire on the inside of your fencing. It keeps horses 'honest'! She just has to touch it one time or watch another animal touch it & she'll stay away. I touched the wire around my horse's paddock today (it was an accident). You can bet that I'll be extra careful around the fence when it's turned on. Horses are like toddlers. They are very curious and will get into trouble if there is an opportunity! BTW, for those who don't know- an electric fence is like the invisible dog fencing, it keeps pup safe from running out into the road.

Sharon - I don't know how common it is, but I'd never seen it before (I'm happy to say.). :)

Marian - Yes, they sure do work! I've accidentally touched them in the past, too...Ouch! :)
