Sweetly Aromatic Peonies

Sweet, Sweet, Sweet!  I love the smell of peonies.

Every garden should have some for their sweetly fragrant smell.

These white peonies with large blossoms about 6 inches across are in my garden.

Peonies thrive and prosper in Southeast Oklahoma.  If you want to bring the fragrance of a flower garden into your home, clip a couple of these and drop them into a bud vase.  They bring both their fragrance and beauty in flower arrangements or alone.

Oh Judi, how beautiful.  I'm jealous as it's too early in the season here yet.  I'm still waiting for the tulips to open lol.

Gorgeous! It's too early for spring here, too...I have one brave daffodil battling it out with the snow!

Jenny, Just think of all the beautiful spring that you have ahead of you.  We are already running the air conditioner!  I loved the lighthouses on your blog page.  Our lakehouse is decorated in a lighthouse theme.

Kim,  Thanks!  Peonies come in various colors.  I've thought of planting some idfferent colors in another area of the garden.  I simply love their smell.

Well, it's started snowing again, so I am guessing our neighbors peonies will not be blooming for a bit.  I used to have a garden patch FILLED with peonies, about 12'x12' with a path through the middle, to the back door.  It was a very old garden, so they were quite large. Do you not have problems with ants on your peonies?

Cheryl, The snow will go away and things will bloom!  No, no problems with ants.  Did you?

Michael,  It's getting to be the "bloomin' time"  in your part of the country, isn't it?? We were to the north last week - Neosho, MO visiting kids and grandkids.

I had always heard that Peonies NEEDED ants to eat their nectar to open.  So before I responded, I looked it up!  Our Peonies were always COVERED in ants, for a while, then they opened and they mostly went away.  On occasion one would make it into the house on a flower.  What I just researched said they do not NEED the ants, but they are beneficial to the plant and they only like certain varieties! Lucky you, you have tha ant-free variety!
