Another Great way to protect your (Photographs)

By
Industry Observer

One of my web site designers gave me this great information because he is also into photography.

It might seem like so much work, but don't you value your photographs and work? After you do it several times, it becomes easier.

I have displayed two photographs below.

One photograph is 100% and the other is only 20% actual size.

If you want to protect your photographs from other people stealing and blowing up, you want to post your pics at 20%

(Note) make sure before you re-size down to 20% that you save the original size into a new folder first. Other wise you will loose the original.

(Remember) before resizing make a new folder named (Originals), take your pic and put it in there. Now go back to the first location of you pic (Not) the new Original Folder and re-size for your post attachment.

The reason I want you to understand is because I don't want anyone angy at me because they lost their original photographs.

The first photograph below is an original and you have my permission to copy it and blow up or magnify this pic and view the pixels and how clear it is.

The photograph below is only 20% and you will see when you blow it up or magnify it how the pixels become very grainy and fuzzy.

Sounds like a lot of time to do this. Can I just trust that most people will not steal?

I appreciate this post. Under our board rules we are not allowed to copy other members original pics without permission. If I hire a helicopter and take aeriel pics of my area. I sure as heck don't want anyone taking them for free. It is just plan and simple: respect.

Would it work to just stamp your name on the photo?

Hi Robert~ What about just putting your name on the photo?  I just started doing that because others were using my photos without permission and touting them as their own.

You're right Robert.  Plus if you're posting images to your blogs, they tend to come up on screen way faster if the images have a smaller file size, and are optimized for the web.  That way, if viewers are on a slower internet connection, you have a better chance that they'll actually stick around to see the photos & read your material.  This is really important when posting photos for real estate listings as well.  If a buyer or Realtor has to wait for pictures to load, they're on to the next property before even getting a chance to see yours.

Thanks everyone for coming around and this is just one way of protecting your photos, you can also watermark them with your name.

I do not do this to all of my photographs because I have so many. But I do have some photographs of MGM City Center that are very valuable and they wil be going into the archives of the project being built.

If MGM comes along and offers me big money for my pics, I won't have a problem selling them.

Hi Robert....Debi and I were having a conversation about this just a few days ago.  This is a valuable suggestion and should be helpful to many of us.  Thanks

Gail - Thanks for coming around and start reducing the size of your pics, if you consider them valuable!

Actually, I think you've reduced the picture by 20% instead of reducing it to 20% of its original size.

Whenever I post a picture on the Internet, it's always 640x480 1 MP, basically useless for anything other than what I use it for.
