LOS ANGELES — Beatrice Arthur, the tall, deep-voiced actress whose razor-sharp delivery of comedy lines made her a TV star in the hit shows "Maude" and "The Golden Girls" and who won a Tony Award for the musical "Mame," died Saturday. She was 86.
Arthur died peacefully at her Los Angeles home with her family at her side, family spokesman Dan Watt said. She had cancer, Watt said, declining to give details. - Associated Press.
It is with great sadness that I learnt about the death of Bea Arthur, the legendary actress on the Golden Girls.
I felt as though I'd lost a family member because of the constant familiarity and comfort I enjoyed when turning on a TV in a dfferent city and seeing a re-run of "The Golden Girls".
Thanks for the laughter, thanks for the smiles - May She Rest in Peace!
I didn't know about Bea Arthur, Stewart. How sad. I loved the "Golden Girls" show when I was a kid, too. Bea always seemed like such a tough broad. I saw a recent photo of her, though, and she looked extremely thin and gaunt. So, I guess it's not a big surprise. Sad.
I never cared much for her until I say her on Comedy Central doing various roast. She was a very funny person.
Hi Stewart - Nice to see a Bea Arthur tribute here. I was so sad to learn the news. She was one of my all time faves.

Well, at least I knew what the show was. I heard that "Bea Arthur" died, however, and didn't know who she was. Thanks for clueing me in.
I think we all need some Cheese Cake! I loved her humor and wit and the fact she could occasionally drop a naughty word! Kind of like hearing your grandmother say it!
