Lemonade Day is May 3rd

Austin is joining many other communities on May 3, 2009 in featuring Lemonade Day, its going to be a community wide event with children learning how business works first hand.  The kids will setup and sell Lemonade and hopefully earn a profit. All in a mini-business setting.

The Lemonade stands will serve traditional Lemonade flavor plus a variety of  flavored lemonades, one I heard about sounds very yummy, Strawberry Kiwi Lemonade.  Now that will quench any Thirsty Texans parched throat on a 90 degree day.  I also heard about a chocolate Lemonade but I think I would need to pass on that one.

So help a youngster learn about business and if you see a Lemonade stand this weekend, stop and grab a cup, oh yeah, tips are appreciated!

Further Information can be found at the Lemonade Day website.

Morning Gail, There is a day dedicated to lemonade, who knew? It's still one of my fav drinks, I even made some delicious lemon ice cream last year. It was soooo good!

I only see the kid's stands once in awhile...and they sure work hard at enticing those customers.

HI Cynthia.. there are Lemonade Days in 5 cities so far, I bet it will grow to be huge in the next few years.  What a great concept!

Jim, I loved lemonade too.. and remember when my kids did it too, they sold it for 2pennies a cup.  LOL.  I think they made about 50 cents once. That was a big day!

Michael, yes ..  we are making lemonades.. their are two little girls here who made lemonade stands to be able to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation to fulfill another childs dream (who had leukemia) they raised $200. to help send her to Disney World.  How good is that?  I think it will spread and with a bit of publicity it will spread faster.  Spread around some Lemonade Day!

Hi Gail... What a GREAT idea!  I love it.  This is a wonderful example of how we can nurture the entrepreneurial spirit of tomorrow's business people from an early age!

I love to see young ones exposed to the rewards of honest hard work.

We often have groups outside our grocery store selling this or that for this cause or another.

Good for them.

Paul, very true, its easier to teach a small child about work and responsibility than it is to teach a teenager.

Steve, yes it is a great thing, Austin is a good community to get behind this sort of thing.

Lenn, Yes, I hate seeing kids begging for sponsors for this or that team, but if its a bake sale or car wash Im giving or buying.

Ricki, the website said they even teach them to build a business plan, a real how to plan and make the stand and buy the stuff.

Shirley, I think it will become more exciting every year as it grows.

Sounds cool - I'll have to check it out! I remember doing this as kid and I think it every kid enjoys either making the lemonade or making the money :) Either way it's sure to be fun, and I could buy lemonade from every kid on the block - so yummy!
