It's a new dawn and a new day.   I hope you greeted this day with enthusiasm and an entire new range of ideas to keep your business moving in an upward direction.   If you haven't done your homework, you can likely expect this day to be pretty much like the last.    Set your plans carefully every evening and then follow through the next day.

These days business is being done differently.   You only have to walk into almost any bricks and mortar business to see what's happening and what has been happening over the past few years.

Here's an example...   My favorite supermarket is selling lawn furniture, children's clothing, pots and pans and the like.   The local automotive store has expanded into electric kettles, microwave ovens and sports equipment etc..   The neighborhood hardware store has a spring garden center, photo development and other services and products not compatible with automotive..

Why are these stores diversifying their offerings?    The short answer is....to make more M O N E Y.

Yet, when I look at real estate websites, (which is the industry's #1 front line store,) I notice only real estate listings and no other products or services for sale.   Real estate websites are for the most part a one product store.   i.e...  Real estate and nothing more.

At the end of the day business is business.   The very bottom line in any business is about generating more revenue.   The more and varied items you have for sale, the more money you have the potential of earning.    Wal-Mart for example has a complete grocery store within their new super stores.   They've diversified into food products.

These days everyone is diversifying.   They're diversifying because they have to.   They're diversifying to create more opportinuties for themselves.

There are no hard and fast rules about compatible product matches.   For example, there is nothing similar about groceries, children's clothing and patio furniture.....and yet my local grocery store is selling all three ..... and a whole lot more non-grocery items.

A dollar into your bank account through the sale of a non-related product or service, is the same as a dollar into your account through the sale of real estate.

Our company, PrimeLinx has an excellent "free to join" affiliate program which will earn you extra income.  Write to me for more info. There are many other excellent added income programs available if you take the time to look and investigate carefully.

The first day of any month can be cold when the bills arrive and the old bank account is running low....or when unexpected emergencies arrive.

My message to you today is....DIVERSIFY to maximize your income potential.

Thanks.  Sincerely, David

David, great advice.  While it is good to diversify, it is hard (if not impossible) to be all to all people.  We need to remember to not spread ourself and our focus too thin.

Multiple streams of income are a very valuable tool to have in your tool box.  Some do not understand why we sometimes have two or three things that we do to generate income for ourselves.  I think that your grocery store analogy is perfect.  Historically, these retailers only sold food and associated items, now they are into everything right down to pantyhose.  One would ask why, well it is because they are filling a consumer need.  In our ever changing market, that is exactly what we need to do, fill our consumer needs to stay alive.  Change is good and we have to embrace it or our business will die a slow and painful death.

I also agree with Vickie that it is a balancing act, we cannot spread ourselves too thin or we will not be able to be effective in any of our endeavors.

David,

That is a good point, the more versatility one offers in services or the more products, the better for sales and marketing.

I know I have had to think of expanding. I added your link to my website. Also, just added cemetery and burial sites to my real estate offerings!
