Samsung NV24HD New Favorite Camera but ONE Major Flaw: Video Length!

So disappointed.

My new favorite camera (see review vs v570) is the Samsung NV24HD (see camera on Amazon, get a refurb!) has one major flaw... Video length. It is limited to 25 minutes, even at the lowest settings. It isn't a battery or card issue, it is a camera issue.

This kinda stinks if you were planning on recording longer videos, like a conference or a panel. My Kodak v570 can last for about an hour on a full charge. Maybe even longer if pluged in.

So here is the Pros and Cons again:

Samsung NV24HD Pros

- 24mm wide in both photo and video mode.

- HD video, but the HD does crop the top and bottom. IE the non HD mode will record a wider image vertically.

Samsun Cons:

- Video length is only 25 minutes. (let me know if the newer cameras last longer)

V570 v705 Pros:

- Widest at 23mm.

- In camera 3 photo panoramic stitch. This is really awesome. It blows away any software solution and is hassle free.

- Video for about an hour on one battery charge (watch out for ebay cheap batteries that claim to be 1100 AMPs, my Kodak 720 AMPS last longer).

v570/v705 cons:

- Video mode is more like 28mm.

Hi Frank,

I guess I'm just one of those 'old school' people. To me, still cameras and video cameras are two completely different things with different purposes, and never will be fully interchangeable - at least not on a professional level.

Uggggh! My V570 Ultra wide lense in non-operational and I can hear something moving around inside when I shake it. I love this camera! I'm afraid the repair shop is going to tell me its a throw away..........Glad to see this blog. I'll have to check out the Samsung.....

Loved the Kodak because it was so simple to use. My last camera was a canon and there were too many options on it.

For video, I'm looking at the Kodak Zi6- $150 for the "kit" at Walmart. Zx1 looks nice too.

unless your planning on shooting a 1hr live performance that is non stop action and has no cuts and pauses 25mins isnt really too bad of recording time. I have a Nikon D90 DLSR that shoots 720P video that is limited to 5min clips. and 30mins in SD(standard definition). It doesnt bother me too much because if were shooting say an amateur movie or a music video its easy to put it all together with video editing software.

I just had a look at a review on the camera http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews_samsung_nv24hd.php its an average point and shoot.

Have you noticed the jello effect when recording video? to test just move the camera up and down while recording video and you'll notice it. Its one of the odd flaws that digital video recording is well known for.

for inexpensive HD video cameras the Aiptek and JAzz HDV 178 are pretty good for the $100-150 level. there are lots of sample videos on Vimeo that you can view in HD.
