Brooklyn’s Prospect Park: It’s For the Birds!

It's Springtime here in Brooklyn. A lot of trees are just starting to bloom and there's a lot of strange birds hanging around!

A lot of people don't know there are quite a few birds here in the big city, especially in Prospect Park.  I never heard of some of the birds local bird watchers Rafael Campos, Gayle & Xandra have spotted.  I never knew a lot of them were even indigenous to this area!

Here is what they spotted this weekend in and around Prospect Park:

Canada Goose
Mallard
Ring-necked Duck
Double-crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Green Heron: 1 flying around 5 Sisters
Red-tailed Hawk
Merlin
Ring-billed Gull
Mourning Dove
Chimney Swift
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
White-eyed Vireo
Yellow-throated Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Blue Jay
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Hermit Thrush
American Robin
European Starling
Blue-winged Warbler
Nashville Warbler
Northern Parula
Yellow Warbler
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Palm Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
Ovenbird
Northern Waterthrush
Eastern Towhee
Chipping Sparrow
Song Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow
Northern Cardinal
Red-winged Blackbird
Common Grackle
Brown-headed Cowbird
Baltimore Oriole
American Goldfinch
House Sparrow

I use to pride myself on being a pretty good bird watcher, but after seeing the list compiled here, I think I better get back to the books or ask  Rafael Campos, Gayle & Xandra if I can tag along...

Look...
