Still searching for some one to edit my book!

By
Industry Observer

I have posted several blogs about a book that I am writing and my search for some to edit it. I went on the web and found several businesses that edit, ghost write and publish books, but when I spoke with them over the telephone they were rude.

I would prefer to find some one in Las Vegas or the southwest because it's not a huge story and I would like to keep my draft close to home. But I do want to get it published because the out come from the book will help others and be a big influence on people.

If anyone through "The Rain" can help me to get my book out, it would be very much appreciated.

My book is for children & families of children that are dealing with some very ugly situations in this world.

I did have a friend in the Midwest that was going to help me, but he wants me to send him my story to look it over etc.

I am not really searching for some one to look over my story, I need it edited and published. If it doesn't sell, I can deal with it.

I look forward to reading your comments and contacting any of your leads you may have for me!

Wouldn't one need to look over the book in order to edit it?

I believe there are companies out there that will allow you to self-publish your own book.  If I come across the name again I'll pass it on.

Robert - When I need something edited, I turn to my business partner.  She was a former law journal editor and has a great eye for making articles more readable.  Warning - be prepared for more than a bit of red ink corrections.

Robert- I know you are looking for someone local but have you tried Elance? You may even find someone local through elance. I made some good connections through there. Have you asked on Twitter. I know a wonderful lady who may be interested who is an excellent writer. She is not local to you either. Katerina

Robert, a great source to find someone to edit your words would be the WRITER.  My passion is writing, but I don't consider myself an editor.  Good luck.

Hi Robert,

I can certainly edit your book, but do not have any connections with publishing houses. I simply do editing and proofreading on a freelance basis. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this further!

Robert - I would ask Elizabeth Weintraub.  She has written a book which is due to be released next month.

Robert,

Save the money and edit it yourself. I have written many books and self-published. I wouldn't trust it to anyone else. It would be a little like have someone else write your blog for you - not the same as you doing it. If you like your style, then go with it. It you want a NYT best-seller, that's another matter. Happy to talk more with you about my experiences. :)

Unfortunately, I disagree with Steve's comment about editing it yourself. Even bestselling authors have their works edited. Having recently gone through the process of finalizing and publishing a manuscript myself (April 2009 release of All In A Day's Work for Real Estate Agents: Humorous & Heartwarming Stories, published by Work Like A Dog Books, 304 pages, $14.95, www.worklikeadogbooks.com), I felt like my manuscript was in extremely good shape. However, I listened to all the publishing gurus (traditional and self-published) and experienced writers who said have it edited. I'm in Atlanta, the woman I used was in North Carolina and I had no troubles. More than having a local person to edit, you need to concentrate on someone who specializes in your type of books (e.g. children's books, nonfiction, mysteries, whatever).

You can contact Dana the head of the Cassell Network of Writers (it's national) to which I subscribe to the newsletter. See www.writers-editors.com for an email address. She regularly posts requests she receives for editors, ghost writers, etc. and it goes out to a network of professional editors and publishers so they can respond to you about the project.

It was also unclear from your post whether you were leaning toward self-publishing or traditional publishing. Be VERY careful of using POD (print on demand) publishers. For THE self-publishing guru and all his wisdom, including some free, some paid reports, visit www.parapublishing.com -- that's Dan Poynter's site and it has a wealth of information.  Feel free to contact me if you should need additional information, resources, etc. You have a long way to get up to speed on what else is involved in this process, including the 3 areas of writing, editing and publishing. Might consider reviewing 1 or more of the Fern Reiss series of books. They are quite helpful.  Best of luck with it.

Bob,

I've been writing my manuscript for 3  years now. As you can imagine, my book is about real estate experiences.

I have found that MANY companies are willing to edit, review and help you publish... FOR A FEE. Those folks are not rude, not the money grubbers I've found. Let the buyer beware! Best of luck, and YES I want a signed copy!
