17 Comments on The Fun of Moving into a New House... the boxes
Funny... think these are the photos they were asking about? not likely... most people expect your home to look like something out of good housekeeping as soon as you move in.. for most of us, it may look like "home" within a month or 2....
Ahhh...it's what friends are for....5 of my gal pals organized and put away my kitchen....it was a while before I could really function efficiently but the boxes were gone and was tidy....it's always far more time consuming than you'd think .
Hey, Donna. You were not kidding. It makes me want to build a fort. LOL, Jim
hi, Donna:
Welcome to Austin!
Your kitchen could pass for some occupied's I have visited. If it makes you feel any better, it took my wife and I THREE YEARS to unpack the last few boxes from our move to Round Rock.
Donna, you look like you are doing fine. Moving out is one thing throwing things out and meeting a deadline. Moving in is chaos too, but then again there's really no deadline. Boxes everywhere. Hope you found the silverware. Thanks for sharing your latest episode.
Sheila, My house needs a "good housekeeping", but it won't be featured in Good Housekeeping for quite a while.
S & D, My mother in law unpacked a few things for me to "redo". Never again! I need to unpack so I can put it in the right place the first time.
JiMaria, WOuld the fort unpack itself? I would like to see that!
Michael, Sad to say that the movers did move some boxes that were never unpacked at the other house, 3 1/2 years there!
Gary, Yes, we found both sets of silverware the first day. Just found all my canned goods today just in time to make some home made spaghetti sauce tonight!
Hi Donna... everytime I have moved it has looked something like that. The worst was when I moved from my 3 bedroom house in Austin to my 700 Sq. Ft. Co-Op in Manhattan. Don't even ask me about that. Hang in there and make sure Alyssa doesn't get lost in the unpacking mess!
I LOVE unpacking into a new home... NOT. Im not a big fan of packing either, but I would prefer to pack than to unpack. Typically, my wife let's me and the boys move the furniture while she relaxes and then we get to relax while her and the girls unpack. :-) Seems like a fair deal, except when something needs to be moved... again and again and again.
I never understood the decorative designs on a mattress & bockspring, especially dark colors. What if your sheets were white? oh well, who cares.
We still have boxes to unpack and we haven't moved in 25 years. (Never missed the stuff either.)
Steve, Talk about downsizing! As for Alyssa, she's having fun climbing the ladder and the stairs over and over. These stairs aren't spiraled like the other house, so we haven't even put up gates yet. She's running all over the place, and she got the first room with no boxes in it! I finished tonight!
John, I've been doing all the unpacking while Mike works on the garage and getting our entertainment center to fit the tiny nook, so he's been modifying it for 4 days now... It doesn't sound "fair" to me.
Greg, Me neighter and I do have white sheets, but not on that bed...
Kathy, Really? Wow! Time to throw those ones out! I don't have any boxes that are "that" old. The oldest packed box I have is 10 years old, but I've been waiting for a daughter to give the stuff to.
Donna you'll have it under control just in time to move again. Your husband must be in sales, as companies tend to move sales people from time to time. Have to take those moves to move up the ladder.
Hi Donna, I see that the big fluffy chair made the move fine...I bet after a day of unpacking that chair can be very relaxing with Alyssa by your side!!
Donna~ Congrats on the new home! We have moved over half a dozen times in the last 4 years. The only advice I can give you is - TAKE BABYSTEPS! Try allotting "x" amount of time each day for unpacking so that you are sure to still get in "you time."
You'll be done soon enough :)
C & C, It's kinda in sales as his company has to sell the parts to the customers, but he's an engineer getting their parts to work for many big companies such as Dell, IBM, TI, Raytheon, Motorola...
Teresa, Yes, the chair is great and I'm sitting in it right now!
Jessica, 6 times in 4 years? Are you crazy?? Are you one that lives in the homes you stage?
Donna - yes, USED to live in homes we staged :) We haven't moved in the past year now, since we bought a home. Boy has it been hard for me to stay put! I'm starting to enjoy it more now...but the first 6-12 months I was ready to move on to something else.
I think we were half crazy!?!?
How is the unpacking coming along?
Jessica, The unpacking is going SLOW as I have no where to put everything. I went from an office with tons of shelves in the room including a walk-in closet with shelves and drawers, to an office with 3 walls and a window... I have no idea how to unpack!! Where do I put my "stuff"?
